Could anyone tell me which would provide the most damage increase please?

I have sentry drone 4, drone interfacing 4 and i'm trying to work out which would provide the most damage increase of my sentry drones, i've searched but i can only find reference to tech 1 sentry drones vs tech 2 and as i just came back faction drones seem to be new and the old information doesn't apply.

I get the feeling tech 2 sentry drones would work out better as it gives a damage, optimal and falloff increase but the majority of what im fighting is already inside optimal range so i'm left wondering if drone interfacing 5 would give me more damage, i will train both but for the short term which is better?

I'm not a drone expert, but you can find the faction drones on the wiki by browsing to the T1 or T2 version and looking at the bottom of the right column.

Thank you but i'm terrible at math.

Drone interfacing = +20% so

faction drones 1.728 + 20% = 2.0736

Is Greater than the damage modifier of tech 2

1.92 +5% = 2.016

Is that right? i think i'm forgetting to add the %20 sentry drone skill to both drones

It seems t2 sentries will be a lot better once i have both skills trained but is the little bit of extra damage out weighed by the extra tracking and optimal range..,

This makes my brain sad.

T2 sentries are better simply because they have better range. Faction sentries are a good in-between but get that sentry drone V trained asap if you're planning on doing pve with them.

T2 sentries are higher priority than drone interfacing V for sentry work. Mostly because of range/durability/availability. Drone Interfacing V is a straight performance enhancer for all drones, but going from 180%->200% is only about an 11% delta in DPS, which is far outweighed by the range advantage of T2 drones in terms of "getting stuff done". Paper DPS vs real-world use, etc.

Agreed. Then immediately begin work on drone interfacing V.

If you are at all serious about sentry drones you will want all to 5 anyhow. Finish sentry drone interfacing first.

I'm going to agree with Sentry Drone Interfacing V as well. The difference between T1 and T2 is staggering (I can't comment on Faction Sentry Drones because I've never used them).

Drone Interfacing V after that will feel like icing on the cake. Smile

I think you are better of training Drone Interfacing V first. This is why:

  • You indicated already to fight within Optimal Range of the Sentries so the Optimal Range of the T2 is hardly relevant

  • The base Damage Modifier of Faction and T2 are resp 1.08 and 1.2 of T1 sentry.
  • Drone Interfacing 4 and 5 give you a resp modifier 1.8 and 2.
Sentry Drone 4 and 5 give you a resp. modifier of 1.2 and 1.25.
The total modifier for Faction with Sentry 4 and Drone Interface 5= 1.08*2*1.2 = 2.592. And the total modifier for T2 with Sentry 5 and Drone Interface 4 = 1.2*1.8*1.25 = 2.7. T2 is only slightly (4%) better than Faction.

  • The tracking modifier of Faction and T2 are resp 1.26 and 1.2 of T1 sentry. So Faction is slightly better, but generally the difference only become relevant at close proximity when being orbitted (and the close range Gardes already have 3 time that of Bouncers and Wardens)

  • The Faction have a HUGE amount of shield HP and armor HP compared to T1 and T2. T2 has +20% on top of T1. Faction has +100% on top of T2. This gives them the ability to stay out a lot longer and even tank the damage of a few BSs. Being able to keep 5 sentries firing, instead of having to retract 1 or 2 of them because they are taking fire. 80% or 60% of 2.7 is a lot less than 100% of 2.592!!

  • Drone Interfacing V also benefits scout drones. I assume you are packing them for killing frigate at close range. Sentry Drone V contributes nothing to them.

I don't have faction drones on it but it might still be useful: http://isoar.ca/eve/drones.php

  • Optimal range is always relevant, I think what the OP means is that he "can" fight comfortably within navy sentry range but the further you can shoot the quicker you can clear a room.

HP of sentries really shouldnt matter, I can comfortably keep aggro with just a target painter plus you're mainly shooting from so far out that they can barely scratch your drones anyway.

Drone interfacing V does indeed benefit scout drones too but with MJD and good damage application at range (t2 sentries) you barely need to use them since you can 1-volley frigs from 100km away.

Your personal thought differs signficantly from what OP has state clearly

So Optimal range is relevant, however the additional Optimal range of a T2 above that of T1/Faction isn't in this case. Also Optimal range of drones are limited by other factors like Drone control range and Targetting range. This is obvious for Gila, but not having skilled everything to the max (SP is a limited resource so as new player you have to make choices) I would probably notice it on my Rattler with DLA's and ODTL's and T2 Bouncers/Wardens as well

There are a couple of things wrong with this.
First, the NPC AI is ridiculous simple and coded against the wrong parameters. CCP has been playing with these NPC AI settings for some time, but I expect/hope that CCP will get rid of the last jumped in, EWAR, drones, player ship priority rule and let targetting be done of factors like (accumulative/predicted) damage dealt to NPC (and its friends), damage restored by enemies/you (and friends) and (predicted) amount of effort needed to remove threat. You in your 100k EHP, 500 EHP/s, 100 dps BS should be lower on NPCs target list than each of your 2k EHP, 10 EHP/s, 100 dps sentries, even with EWAR.

Secondly, good luck keeping your TP running when losing lock due to jamming or sensor dampening or trying to hide in fall-off of missiles. But probably you play EVE differently, get different missions than me if you don't encounter situations like that.

Warping in at 5km from gate on top of a batch of frigs and cruisers: you perform jump, kill NPCs and then jump back (after cooldown)?
Hmmm, clearly must be different play styles. I'm not so risk averse and know my tank and drones can handle the situation without problem. You do know that frigs (and drones) tend to blob, close in fast when unleashing their EWAR and frequently are triggers for spawns, right??
