Because I refuse to believe it exists such stupidity, I choose to believe you are a troll. I dont encourage trolling, therefore Ill ignore you from now on

He isn't trolling, that is the law on the books of the UK.

Say its rubbish in court, it won't be taken as a defence how silly you think the law is or nonsensical. It would even stand up in the European High Courts as I understand it should it be appealed there.

I wasnt saying him mentioning the law is trolling, but him avoiding the world market (aka internet) implications. Stuff is happening and alot of them, outside his neighbourhood. Just pointing out hes not aware of alot of things

Yes, that is the UK law for internet purchases, mail order, any kind of telecommunications or long distance trade over the UK border.

This is just the beginning of governments taxing international, virtual, IP. Next comes the international monitoring agency to "protect" consumer rights, then the taxes to pay for them.

Its OK though, they will bury the taxes in inflation, you wont even notice as long as you are watching the stock market.

Irrelevant. This discussion relates to the provision of server access as a service not our borrowed sandbox toys.

And this is why people hate us (Americans)

Not at all Nex, there are obnoxious people all over the world with bad timing and ill humor. If there's a reason to "grrrr wtf!" the United States, its is more to do with the perceived Americaization that can occur when big money wants to get bigger.

People I have met form overseas love their cultural identity, their history, and their right to do things their way. But certain people also see the U.S. model as being financially superior and so the drive to emulate it is very hard to resist.

It is probably this internal tension that creates an emotional response when dealing with the US more than anything Americans personally say or do.

***Canadians and Mexicans and all the peoples of S.America can also claim to be "Americans". I try and avoid using the term to specifically describe U.S. citizens. Kinda tough though =-P

How do you, UK, force them to obey your laws? Can you?

They absolutely can. You've mistaken "laws" governing internal politics with trade agreements, treaties, conventions, and other international signatory agreements. Generally, trade agreements are reciprocal in nature; all parties agree to the terms and their enforcement. If you break the agreement, you get smacked with sanctions, trade barriers, tariffs, etc. Most often, the situation is simply that a business's license to operate a business is suspended. If they really want to get serious, they'll go after bank accounts.

With me working for an ISP I get tonnes of those calls where people keep coming to me because their game is laggy or not performing great. I run tons of speed tests and such and still they are unsatisfied even when they are well within range.

So yeah. I will hate those calls.

The Queen's speech is only a list of proposals that the current government think is in it's interest to announce at the time, mixed up with some padding. I doubt anything will come of it, and if it does I expect a clause that if the provider take reasonable steps to compensate users no further action would be taken. Plus who is going to pony up the cash to take something like this to court for a video game? Can't see it affecting Eve in the slightest.

Losing customers and reputation is the real damage caused by a Simcity style omni-shambles, having to pay compensation on top is something of an insignificance.

Read the EULA. You subscribe for the ability to play the game during the time CCP has the servers online and functioning.

There is nothing in the EULA that stipulates minimum uptime.

This will likely trump the EULA in the courts, doubly so as the servers are based out of London. The Bill is intended to increase consumer protection by nullifying such anti consumer practices.

The problem is that it isn't anti-consumer. The servers aren't the issue. What this does cover is if you pay for a full year's subscription and the next day your account is banned with some bullshit reason, with the company saying that under the EULA they aren't required to give you any type of refund, since you had a day's playtime.

Leadership is something you learn. Maybe one day, you'll learn that.

That depends on which customers left and how much the compensation + administrative fee's come out to.+ time wasted explaining things to bureaucrats who have little to no knowledge about the industry that they are in charge of regulating. It was the government and their meddling that destroyed studio 38, nothing to do with customers.

More bills made by people who don't understand the actual subject matter.

I'll start counting the days untill some a-hole abuses this bill and runs eve into the ground just because he lost his newbie ship on day 1. Seriously.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

Do we have the exact wording of the law yet?

Because until we have that. We have nothing to debate.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

No, we have an established intent from The Queens speech, written by the Government to debate the wording of and proposals in the coming term of parliament. Its basically the consultation phase.
