Getting 100% signal on cosmic signatures-HELP!

Hi everyone and sorry if this is a total NOOB question but I am struggling to get 100% signal strength on the tutorial missions. I have 4 probes and just end up moving them about randomly in a vain attempt to get the signal. Ive managed it once but no idea how. Finding the tutorial unhelpful / difficult to understand. Is there a simpler way or am i just being a NOOB?

Currently going through courts to get access to my son. Greatfully accpting doantions to help me keep plexed. Much Love.

Did you consider training up another level of Astrometrics(I think) so you can launch a fifth probe?

The key to scanning is to keep reducing the scan distance, and the distance between the probes.

Thanks, I can locate the kind of signal i need then put my probes closer to it then scan again. However the signature disapears? Getting frustrated with it and ready to leave the mission. Ugh

Edit: I will train up another level when the server is back on to see if it helps.P

Clear filters. Those can be the problem.

Also. Watch the CCP tutorial on Youtube (cant link cause YT is blocked on my workWhat?)

The video made much more sense! IdeaThank you for the help. I'll let you all know if i had any success when the server is back up.

Additionally, check the link in my sig and watch my exploration tutorial, might help.

I "always" use a minimum of 5 probes. One on top of the sig and the remaining four on each side of it.
Then adjust probe range and distance as needed (see video tutorial).
It might not be the most optimal method, but it has always worked fine for me.

And yes probing is frustrating when you are new to it

Also the scanning support skills are very important and will reduce the time it takes to pin down the signature by a ton. Acquisitioning, pinpointing and rangefinding, take them to 3-4 ASAP and you will have a lot better time of it.

I'm still very much a beginner but I have had good luck arranging my four probes (that's all I can use at present) in a pyramid. I arrange three in a triangle on the plane of the system with their scan radii overlapping about half way. The fourth I set above the center. When I get a hit, I move them all together so that the green intersection point is near the center of the anomaly "zone". Since I started doing this, I haven't had to adjust relative position or scan radius. I usually get 100% after one or two attempts.

The YouTube tutorial is amazingly helpful, as well as upgrading Astromentrics, as well as training the following skill:

Astrometric Rangefinding — Skill for the advanced operation of long range scanners. 10% increase to scan probe strength per level.

Astrometric Pinpointing — Greater accuracy in hunting down targets found through scanning. Reduces maximum scan deviation by 10% per level.

And If you really wanted to, you could also train up

Astrometric Acquisition — Skill at the advanced operation of long range scanners. 10% reduction to scan probe scan time per level.

I don't really find Astrometric Acquisition overly helpful, as 10 seconds isn't really a long time to wait for the scan to complete, and all it does is drop it down 1 second per level.

Afraid I was a bit naïve.
My method worked flawlessly on the training sites, but it does take longer and require more adjusting to scan down regular sites. At least at my level of training.
