the asteroid belts ought to be owned by the rats and players should have to fight them to be able to mine the belts
this would give the miners a reason to go to the belts with first a combat ship to take the asteroid belts away from
the rats and then and only then can they go back to their mining ship to mine the ores they took away from the rats
it should be on a security basis per the rats and the rats should have a faster re-spawn

this could be a way to reduce the amount of isk farming that is happening
unless there is a real player behind the screen

A properly tanked miner would just be able to ignore them. Anyone else would just park a drake alt in the belt to deal with the rats, and all you would do is make life harder for new players.

Says the Highsec carebear Miner. Go head out to any 0.0 and mine in a belt in a mining vessel and tell us that belt isn't "owned" by NPC Pirates. You do know 0.0 belt rats spawn Battleships with escort yes? This doesn't even count Player intervention. I'm all for more NPC spawns in all belts in all systems, as it gives players more ratting to do, but to do so because YOU think it's boring mining (since you're obviously mining in highsec) is frivolous.

EDIT: You beat me Danika, I swear you live on the forums :P

I agree that mining could use some spicing up but rats aren't the right kind of flavour.

Check the thread in my signature for ideas on the matter.

I would love for belts to be collidable. note i have never mined, but i think it would be awesome for combat in belts, and would make mining more challenging and interactive, as well as impossible to bot. Also maybe a PI like interface for roids, with individual pockets on the roid ro target for the most yield.

Mining is already being changed to be a bit more participatory.

If you don't like mining, don't mine. Rat, run missions or incursions, or explore.

Plenty of ways to make money.
