Armor Deflection Plates

So I was thinking about an idea to improve armor tanking. And taking the idea from World of Tanks armor mechanics, it would something along these lines:

50/100/200/400/800/1600 tech t2 armor plates would a small chance to deflect bullets/missiles corresponding to their size (small would deflect small ammo, medium would deflect medium ammo and a higher chance to deflect small ammo, etc..)

The chance would be small like 2%-5% for plate with stacking penalties, they would add less slightly less HP than meta 4 plates, the deflecting chance would be increased against smaller bullets/missiles. And depending on the ammo, it could have penetration (eg. lasers would have natural penetration, different hybrid ammo would have more penetration to promote its use).

The % deflection would work against singular turrets, so 8 firing turrets would have easier damage application on a heavy armor tanked than for example only 4.

I think this probably would add something that could stand aside shields passive regeneration or it would probably make everyone fly armor tanked fleets. What do you guys think?

My on board targeting systems automatically calculate the path of my ammo to account for possible deflections. In other words, it aims for the spot where there is no chance of my ammo "deflecting" off your ship.

So no. This is a terrible idea. Shield and armor tanking are already balanced with the exception of active armor tanking which is still bad.

saying shield and armor tanking is balanced is stupid. active armor which is that mobile option for armor tank is garbage and still have to sacrifice damage for a garbage tank.

the only thing armor buffer tank is good for is defensive tactics where you dont have to move. in every other situation armor tank is sub par compared to shield.

and deflection plates is stupid. we don't need another formula on top of the 500 calculations that go into hitting and damage.

My on board auto pilot will not warp to 15km, could you please share me your ship stuff? It's probably a newer version than mine. :(

My idea might be terrible, I even agree with the post bellow you, more formulas shouldn't added on top of others. But please don't reply with ******** RP ideas of yours.
