How does doing missions with a fleet work?

I'm doing the SoE epic arc right now, and it's getting to the point where I sometimes have to get away from the mobs for a while to repair my armor and regain my shields, before turning around and getting back into the fight again. I imagine that pretty soon it's going to ramp up so much that I need to do that whole online multiplayer thing and actually start interacting with other players.
But if a mission only pays ~100k-200k + salvage, that's not a lot of incentive for someone to come in and help me. So, my question is twofold:

1. Do mission rewards scale up according to fleet size somehow?
and
2. How does doing missions with a fleet work in practice? How can I avoid getting ganked if I start asking for help in local?

Thanks.

1. Rewards do not scale up with fleet size. The individual who accepted the mission has the option of sharing the mission reward with his fleet or not. Mission rewards do become significant when you are running higher level missions. Standings increases are shared with the fleet.

2. Generally speaking, it is unwise to seek help in local chat. There are lots of guys like me in local who would love nothing better than to "help" with your mission, then make off with the loot drop that you need to complete the mission and ransom it back to you. EVE is all about trying to **** over the other guy most of the time, that is why we love this game. It is better to seek help in your own corporation (preferably a player corp). Or even better, offer help to others in local, then see if you can screw them in some profitable way yourself.

Been playing for a couple years now, still haven't finished the SoE arc, myself.Big smile

keep in mind that pirate bounties make up a large ammount of the income often several times the mission reward ammount. the bounties are automaticaly split between all participants and are transfered to your wallet every 15-20 min i beleive. in lvl 4 missions these bounty payouts can be a few mill per tick

Brave Newbies doesnt really use PvE fleets. It uses PvP fleets that get bored and shoot rats.

Generally, we run logi + dps + tackle - typically 2-3 logi, a couple of damage cruisers and some frigs. Everyone understands they need to Broadcast Or Die, and the call sometimes is made to warp off if reps arent holding. Tackle clears small stuff, while the DPS follows targets as broadcast.

We do class 3 wormholes and 5/10 DED sites in cruisers, cruiser logi and frigs.

We just cashed out 110m per member for a 5/10 site.

Mostly, missions are to grind standings to get access to locator agents, although the salvage shouldnt be under-rated.

But the big thing is doing missions as a group teaches people to align, broadcast, listen for information, keep an eye on local, spam d-scan, rep when people broadcast and do things together and build trust.

Eh, my plan is to do the SoE arc and then join BNI anyway. Thanks for the advice guys, I guess I should try to get as far as I possibly can in my lone frigate for now.

2.) Do ask for help. But know that there are bad people in too. I did have spent a lot of time helping new players with the SoE Epic arc in the past for free. But not everybody is friendly, but as long as they aren't in your corp there are 2 things that can happen:

A.) Suicide gank - As they aren't in the same corp, CONCORD will punish them.
B.) Loot theft - they can steal your mission item and ransom you for it.

If you need help with the SoE Blood-Stained Stars arc, feel free to contact me via EVE-mail.

It wouldn't be the first time I've helped. Example of another thankful pilot.

I think the payout is split evenly. But you can choose if you want those in fleet to get a mission pay out.

You wont get ganked if you are in high-sec. No guarentee anywhere else. No guarentee in high-sec for that matter but at least concord will give them what's coming to them if they gank you.

The basic mission reward can be split or taken solo; bounties are split between fleet members on grid at the time of the kill.

And hisec gankers will generally have confederates to swoop in and loot your ship. (Assuming the ganker's not just out to ruin other people's day. A surprising number of players are in it for just that.)

You must not have been a victim of my "gank and greets" that some friends and i do from time to time to welcome new players to eve. Find a 3 week old toon, make sure he's new. Blow him to pieces, then pay him between 50 and 100 million isk with a pat on the back that EVE is fun and harsh sometimes.

Then we typically drag him into a social chat and help him develop and they eventually either join us or join another group of friends and embark upon their time in eve with fun and fanfare for all.

Alright, thanks for the advice guys. I was able to get to Dagan by myself, and then got some help from local when it came to beating him.
