Ammo Changes

Hey all,

since the announcement of the Oddysey changes, there have been quite a few complaints especially the ammar have been hit quite hard - cap use bonus removed, resistance bonus made smaller and less low slots (although my bellowed typhoon also lost its drone bay, but ok, this for another time). So what I was thinking about is ammar ammo. I think it would be a good way of ballancing if their ammo would all do the same ammount of damage, but would differ in cap use and optimal range (maybe also tracking). For instance microwave crystal would have 75% reduced optimal range and cap use, another one would have 100% increased optimal and cap use, another one maybe 50% reduced optimal but 25% increased tracking or something in that way. All figures are just examples. That way ammar pilots would have a choice between range, cap use and maybe tracking. And also it would make the racial traits more ballanced: minmatar accomodate damage type, ammar range, gallente the strongest punch (you could even increase the hybrid cannon damage ammount :) and caldari punch and damage type. I know its not exactly like that atm, but it could be a future.

Hope you will share your opinion (in a polite way - you can fight in eve :). And before somebody says I´m an ammar spy, I´m actually a gallente/minmatar/caldari pilot :)

Cheers

That's exactly what an Amarr spy would say!

confirmed, OP is an Amarr spy.

Not sure what people are on about with the BS changes for amarr. Mission alt is amarr with full core skills/T2 beams ... most rats fall to the cleansing fire of the lasers in 1 shot (unless I miss, then it's 2).

Granted right now he's running l1/2 agents in a dessie (Coercer FTW!) so that I can actually fly with the newbros and am not just one of those ******* types who are "in corp, but 47 jumps away running L4 missions because this is who I have standing with"

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

people are mad because they can not brainlessly press f1 all day and not have to worry about cap. and they also dont want to train there leet cap skills past 4. and did i mention they are lowering large laser cap usage. amarr have always had cap issues. and always will that is part of there balance. granted being pigeon holed into em thermal damage sucks. short of missiles they have the best damage projection i believe. people need to stop complaining about cap and work around it. if you have to run your reps permanently in order to live in a mission you are doing it wrong.

you are officially booted off of your own post.

i wouldnt insult horrible ideas by putting this in the same catagory as they are. this is crap.

tell me something. how does aiming a light (instantaneous travel speed) become affected by changing a focusing crystal? the crystal is internal to the gun. they all weight the same. the computer aims the laser based on where the target is now and pulses the capacitor. it all travels at either the speed of electricity or the speed of light. there should be only 1 circumstance where lasers gain a tracking penalty and thats because we are being disrupted. nothing else matters with lasers.
its instant! BAM! done.
one isnt waiting for gun powder to ignite, then a bullet flying to the target (which could move in the time it takes to get there).

rails are just as bad as guns. it takes time for the physical to fly to its intended target. lasers do not suffer the physical to pass.
we both push the button at the sametime and my lasers have hit the target before you bullet leaves the barrel.

on the CIWS (an anti missile system i worked on in the navy), we tracked our own bullets going out to we could make sure they were hitting the in bound missile. we send out a radar pulse, it hits the bullet and comes back to the ship many times over before the bullet actually hit the missile.

lasers are high tech stuff and sorely misrepresented in this game.

the laser uses energy. changing the the frequency at which the crystal resonates will cause the beam to be a shorter, high energy/high heat beam, or a longer range lower heat/ high EM.

dont ever suggest that lasers need tracking penalties. they should not gain tracking bonuses for them either.

damage bonus/penalty, cap bonus/penalty i can see. nothing to do with tracking.

Mr. Mole, improve your reading. I wrote "maybe also tracking". It was a proposition. I was very polite in my post and was hopping for a civilized discussion and not negativistic comments from frustrated chumps. So please, I know its hard, but think before you start hitting your keyboard. And also, I guess you probably noticed EVE is full of things that seem illogical. If nothing else, nothing can travel faster than light. Would be quite boring to travel with speed of light and take 4 years between two systems. And I guess someone would be able to come up with a more or less explanation. And again, it was just a proposition, my main point was cap and optimal.

They have best range. The thing is it would be nice that they would be more "adaptable". But as I said, its just a proposition. And the effects could be much lower or for much higher "costs", like 50% decrease in optimal for 25% les cap use. The numbers can be thrown around much more.

um, as for the ammo changes, they already DO THIS.

Multifreq - -60% range
Standard -- (nothing)
Infrared -- + range, uses less cap
