without pvp there would be no need to buy ships and mods, and most players would just leave out of boredom if they didn't leave already when pvp was disabled.

also, popups are not there to be ignored, read them. not that you lost much but consider it an inexpensive lesson learned.

It goes both ways. Without PvE, PVP would be meaningless, and players would leave out of boredom. Pure PVE games do tend to survive longer then pure PVP.

I think one thing is missing in this. And I think You should add this future. If you in high level zones living or starting to play game, at least give notification are you want to fight. For me its takes ages to grind money and I like PvE. Wiast time when get lost everyting is no point. Second is not fear and also is cheating when some is increasing reputation in high level zones. Give for people to get chance by stuff to go for PvP. Because at the moment I don't any chance to grind stuff in this game. I mean I like play solo and I like missions.

I mean if You want to get 10k more players.

I like this game because is a nice space simulator, but please can make some space for PvE players. I will back next year to check to you work guys. Good Luck.

No PvE, so dont advertise as an MMORPG?

Are you daft lad? The lack of themeparks makes it more of an RPG than any other game, because your character is being roleplayed by you, with stories by them, doing any and all actions apable by them.

unlike most "MMORPGs" where the only RPG element is levelig up, EVE lets you choose your missions, and act in them however you want, do you want to help that miner? kill him? pretend he doesnt exist? all are options, thats what makes it an RPG, you make your quests, you choose your battles. and as far as MMO goes, i dont think any other games have more than 10,000 players not only online at once, but online on the same server, let alone eve's average of 30-40 thousand players.

I think You need read again you post. EVE doesn't allow you chose missions, if you will be in wrong time you will be dead from player. So only player allow you to chose missions :D Please don't talk about EVE NPC, here is only player changing everything now and is not depend on me actually :D. I didn't decide to be dead when I was approaching stargate to jump. And what zones level 0.0 or 0.9 it doesn't mean nothing. Because everywhere is PvP. :D

I dont mission, so i dont talk about NPC.

but SERIOSULY, he chose as his mission "Kill 1 random", you just happened to eb that random, he chose what he wanted to do, you were just on the short end. you chose to go where he was, knowing or not, you played and chose to go there, you werent forced to go there and die. if you chose "lets go kill somebody: or "haul X to Y" that would be your self-chosen mission for the day, that is what makes it more of an RPG than other games, "missions" arent scripted because you choose and make them yourself.

if anything EVE is one fo the only RPG's out there, WOW is just an interactive rollercoaster that starts at X and ends at X, then you get off, and if you want to ride again, you go through the same exact thing just with different people.

"only 40k players" - So if this game has 40k players logged in most of the time it means it only has 40k players?

In other words, those 40k players are logged in ALL the time?

Jeez, some people really need to learn how to think.

Also, if you want a game where you can PvE and be invulnerable to PvP: WoW is -> that way.

Might be a cliche but it still applies to this case.

Pretty picture for you with graphs and stuff

But this number is until 1 mill subscribers ;-). looking foward

Oh, you want that one too?

1m and over

That leaves you SWTOR (F2P), Runescape, and WoW.

Very few games have over 1m subscribers. Your claim is that Eve "only has 40k subscribers" (Not true, 40k people logged in at any given time != 40k subscribers), and that it is not growing.

At FF they said they would like to hit 100k concurrent users soon™ while that may be a while off, I expect 60 or 70k concurrent users is not too far off. Currently it is showing 37k or so, and its not peak time Euro yet.

As you like pretty graphs, here is the server thingy since 2006 or so Server activity

With Odyssey only 1 month away, and the 10th anniversary coming up in a few days, and the launch of DUST, I think rumours of Eves demise may be a little premature ^^

That graph hasn't been updated for a long time, so the numbers aren't accurate anymore. I know SWTOR officially tanked under 1 million subs months before going F2P and activity numbers continued to decline during those months. F2P has given it a bump, but it has continued to merge servers even after that and earlier this year they announced they have decided to close all asian servers. It really is rare for sub based games to stay above a million for long and it's not exactly common for F2P MMOs either.

PS: and don't mention Second Life, ever, just no. Holyshit.

Dungeons and Dragons Online. A bit cheating since it went F2P but still, you already disallowed SL which kindof negates the whole Eve is the ONLY one.

Quote:

Eve has over 500k active subscriber. That 40k? that's well over most other MMOs out there. Even Moon Guard and Kil'Jaeden realms in WoW US (two of the most active/populated realm in WoW) are well below Eve's average activity.

WoW servers are capped, not really a good comparison.

DDO subscription numbers declined on early 2008 (that's two years after release and before the subscription model switch), even after they turned F2P, the numbers "redeclined" in 2009 and 2010 (idk if this is related to/affected the server switch/closure at the time). They did however managed to turn around and got a huge subscription spike right after iirc.

WoW realms are capped, but that cap is well over Eve's average daily active players, even on busy weekends.

I didn't mention immortality from players. But one thing can be, like notification about about low level zones when buy by stuff. I know is my mistake after I back after one year brake ;-)

Also it happen with this one. When i didn't know trick about cargo. If some want to take your cargo, so that player became enemy :D. And it was first time when I encounter player i fought that it was NPC, because i was doing missions in that place. So they destroyed ship very easy. There are notifications as well as tools.

If you haven't turned it off you get a big pop up when trying to jump into low-sec. Its asks if you really want to do this and you have to click it.

If you have this off you can easily see that it is low-sec when you set it as your destination. Anything orange in color is low-sec.

You can also set it so that won't route you through low-sec at all unless you set a low-sec system as your destination. Again it shows you by color that it's low.

The game just expects a person to pay attention to what it's already doing for you. If you don't it's not the games fault.

Well, the game should warn you when you jump to lowsec. If it doesn't, perhaps, you have that notification disabled. It can be reset in the relevant options menu, I believe. Other than that, always check the system status when buying stuff on the market, I'd say.

Then again, sometimes it's fun sneaking a 240 mil worth object out of low in a nano stabber, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Smile

Your answer appeared just as I was writing mine.

Stuff... happens in this game. That's why many times the good folks of GD said that you probably ought to join a corp, or, at least, find some experienced people to fly with from time to time. All of this could have been avoided if you had the option to ask in TeamSpeak/Ventrilo/whatever about the difference between red crosses and red brackets, or what a yellow can means.

I can't be sure about what happened there, but there was no CONCORD on that KM, and 45k damage is pretty steep for a solo Thrasher in 0.8 on a suicide run, so, probably, you gave the other guy a right to kill you by falling for can-bait trick, or some such. Also, flying a ship you care about too much is not the best option here.

My advice is, get some people you trust (if there are any), and play together, flying cheap expendable ships. Do whatever you like, and don't worry that much about the bad stuff. If you factor it in your finances, it won't hurt much. If you have all the eggs in the same basket, however, and you leave that basket under a truck... well... your choice.

I was very surprised now how destroyer can do so massive damage 45k. I need look for fit and books for this damage. And I remember I put all defense on. Also I was trying escape, but he was using some skill which block wrap. I was following giude that this ship is good fit for Level 4 missions. But is not good against players.

Ok, here are your mistakes.

1. You picked a fight (albeit, unknowingly), with a ship that is specifically fit for PvP, and let him dictate range. You also underestimated dps, which is a serious problem. Destroyers are really good at melting other things down, especially when properly fit and with decent skills.

2. Let me not comment on your fit, as I don't fly gallente BS'es in PvP. Can't help there, but I'm sure there are people here that can.

3. Battleships in general are quite vulnerable to ships below cruiser, as they have a hard time tracking those. Ofc, having tracking scripts and light drones could've helped a bit... perhaps.

4. The thing that prevented you from warping - it's actually a module that blocks your warp, though it requires a certain skill to use. They come in long and short range flavours, and are referred to as "points" and "scrams", or a common name "tackle". Folks never plan for a PvP op without them on at least one ship, unless they aim to insta-pop someone. Therefore, assume that whoever attacks you, he generally has at least one way of making sure you don't get away. Certain ships with overheated faction points can hold you as far as 35+ km's. T1 dessies are certainly not among them, however.

5. Last question - how good are your character's skills? Are you up to doing L4's in a sniper BS? Maybe you should stick to BC's and L3's, until you have all relevant skills to at least Lvl 4? But that's a question for the future. At any rate, feel free to chat me up ingame, if I'm online.

Edit: just noticed it's a blaster fit with passive tank. Not sure it would have worked for PvE, as you had hoped for.

I just bought BS for LvL4 missions and I starterd to explore from Lvl1 missions. Also I was testing BS and my skills. So I though that HS is safe place to experiment, do quests and enjoy game. I thought I found PvE place in EVE online. So I don't want anymore waist my time and money on it. So later or early I will be dead in HS.
