I think the 5000 word constraint is appropriate. I wrote a long winded soliloquy myself, but then thought it was much better to have everyone create something that would pique interest through a shorter version. If someone doesn't want to read the short version, why would they want to read a tl;dr one?

Will there be any means to prevent voting from devolving into a simple popularity contest? Also, these tag, discussion, and hit filters seem to guarantee that the actual quality and content of the stories will - at best - play a tertiary role in determining winners.

I recommend a panel of CCP judges boil it down to a modest pool of desirables, selecting the type of story they're looking for "Early-round 'American Idol' style". This is ideal because there's no way voters will read every story to ensure they afford only the most deserving their support. If the field is reduced to some ten or twenty finalists, however, there is a higher probability of votes being well-informed.

Failing that, remove all identifying marks from every story (not foolproof, I know. That's why this is plan B), and only allow players to view one at a time, selected at random. Do not allow them to view another until they have read and rated the one they're on, preferably on a scale instead of a simple yes/no.

I agree with Katja on this, popularity isn't a good filter for what makes a good story, or even a good filter for what story the community cares most about. It is more likely to filter out popular people than popular stories, regardless of the quality of those stories.
I'd much rather that the director of the tv series or the writer of the comic uses his expertise to select stories, based on what makes a good story.

Thanks for the feedback. The 5000 character limit was put put there as an attempt to create "artistic constraints", with the goal to focus the storytelling so that it would be more of a treatment or synopsis, rather than a fully fleshed out story. That would make it easier for readers to trawl through all the stories once the voting process starts.

A number of people have expressed their concern that this is way to short. We'd love to hear opinions, pro and cons for this. Are there people that like keeping it short, so that it´s concise, or do most of you want more space to better illustrate your stories?

I think changing it now isn't the right way to go, as it's unfair to those who already wrote their entries in the style of a synopsis.

Definately..can't change the format now that its well underway. Love the Idea but do think that there is nothing to stop this degenerating into anything but a corp/ alliance driven voting frenzy. Thats ok as far as it goes. CCP will still have a resource from which it can draw material for its artists, storywriters and (hopefully) storyboarders and screenwriters. Would just be nice if some of those whose material is used or drawn upon could get some of the reward as opposed to the purely politically fueled vote machines.

Theres now over 76 pages of listed stories. Can't see how most of the stories will even get read by the viewing public, let alone get a shot at an impartial vote.

Still, a terrific initiative and gratz to the eventual winners and those who've taken the time to give me something to read over the past 2 weeks. Personally I'm fonder of some of the smaller less epic experiences but I've enjoyed most that I've managed to get to.

P.S. Shameless self promotion here "Honor among Thieves"..by myself, have tried to contact one of the characters featured in the story anyone form Meatsheild Bastards form 2011 know if Ginstery is still active...now in Perkone?

I read through the rules again, and it seems I overlooked that the voting doesn't actually determine which stories will be used in any products. The voting only determines who gets the prizes. (which is still pretty crappy if you ask me) But any of the stories can be used for the comic or tv series.

The prizes will go for the most voted (which means the ones with most friends will get the prizes, not the best) and the good stories maybe will appear in some TV show or Comic book and you will get nothing which seems pretty unfair. Selected stories for a comic or TV show deserve some kind of prize in my opinion.

I'd be happier if they credited the people who wrote the stories as co-writers.
