That's the spirit of eve. Show all you invite or tell about eve this: http://www.danielschurter.net/mainsite/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/eve-learning-curve.jpg
You either have the guts to play eve or you don't. That's why so many get attached to this game. It's special. And no, this game is not for everybody. I also have a theory that you have to hate yourself (even if you don't admid it) to play this game on the long term. But even if you leave for good.....you usually get back, be it in a year or 5.

I am not old, just bitter.

Odd sort of complaint in the title of this thread. A human soul in a capsuleer containment vessel.

OP, Humanity did its best and here we are. They are too frail to matter to the Cosmos.

Yes, we owe them.

But...

We have inherited destiny and they can never catch up. Let us treat them gently as we leave them behind.

Death does not deter.  I will mine until you surrender.

It's not easy to pull in new pilots when they are being preyed upon by people who want an easy target, or the null sec blocks that paint such a negative image of EVE. Most of the things you hear about EVE are about all the terrible things we manage to do to each other while under the flag of Anon.

There are not many who wish to be part of the worst society has to offer.

There are the good, but they are massively over shadowed by the bad.

(This is an Alt, and this isnt how EVE should be... but it's all a matter of opinion, isnt it?)

You're welcome to your opinion, but it's a matter of fact that EVE is growing. So we're not stopping it.

After 10 years, this is how Far EVE has gotten? I'd call it stable before I'd call it growing. Any growth it has is nothing compared to what it could have if the community was better.

And you aren't a part of the cummunity? Somestimes a little shouting and screaming and getting others together with you to drag the rest along.

i think EVE is all about people trying to do terrible things to each other. But i understand that it's hard for new players to find their place in EVE universe...
Good thing places like EVE-Uni exist.

It's hard to grow a game when the company is forced to change direction from creating content that will grow the playerbase to creating content that satisfies the existing playerbase just because a bunch of spoiled little kids stomp their feet and shoot at a statue.

Unfortunately CCP is not going to see a huge increase in subs anytime soon because EVE is still the exact same game it was 10 years ago with a few new ships and toys. Gameplay hasn't changed, mechanics haven't changed. Nothing truly new has been created. Still just ships in space.

The people that want to play ships in space are already playing ships in space. The ones that want more from a $15 a month sub don't get anything more so they don't play.

Also...in case you haven't noticed yet...the subscription paradigm is quickly flying out the window. CCP is going to eventually need to figure out how to make EVE free to play without allowing people to have 100 alt accounts or they won't grow because nobody is going to want to pay to play a game when they can find something else for free that gives them more than what the pay to play game offers.

Bounties for all! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2279821#post2279821

From my (shoddy) experience the main reason why new people quit is because EVE isn't a short-term game to play. It takes months if not years to actually get anything out of it.

Are you saying this is a good thing? Honestly, if it takes months, years, or, hell, even a week for someone to get "anything" out of something, that person should probably look elsewhere for entertainment.

And yet they still manage to do it. Building the player base steadily for ten years.

TEN FRIKKIN' YEARS!!!!

How many other games can say that?

I would like to see a CCP stat for how many of those 500k subs are multi accounts.

What you are looking for is how many unique IP addresses are associated with the number of accounts they say they have.

What would attract people to the game apart from the terrible human interaction like massive thefts, burn jita etc

People are not going to be attracted to the game over awesome stories of mining in highsec or building hulks with max efficiency blueprints.

Right now you have EVE divided into two worlds: 1) Everybody just going about their business in high sec, and 2) Tear harvesting outside high sec. Some deep blue spots in 0.0 mix the two. With the new changes to industry the alliances will become more independent of high sec and be better able to support larger populations, which will lead to more null bears in 0.0. This will bring about more balances communities instead of Carebear Land and Pirate Land as we have it now, which will in turn lead to an evolution of the community and player interactions.

I hope you don't have a plans for a career in sales. I won't say any of this statement is "wrong", but it is about the ugliest presentation of a collection of somewhat truths that I have seen in a while.

You do realize that whenever a story of epic intrigue, betrayal, and general skullduggery impossible to attain in any other game hits the media outlets it is usually followed with a sharp spike in new subscriptions right?

Even players that have no desire to play the bad guy still want to be part of a game where it is possible to do so.

Also the stories of heists and huge fights that destroy tens of thousands of dollars' worth of stuff only turn away the people who have no business in EVE. If you instead read a story about a guy who plays some space MMO by pressing a button on his ice mining ship every hour, would that have you throwing money at your monitor?
