Hi all,
I've been struggling to get the mac client to install. I keep getting a "image data corrupted" message when I try and mount the dmg. I have tried d/ling 3 times and have been all over the web looking for a resolution.

Any advice would be appreciated. Im running a MacBook Pro 2011. OSX 10.6.8

Thanks

welp, trying to install a corrupted image a few more times might help :P

try resetting your modem and DLing it again

also try the support forum, or email CS and ask them to check the DL file to make sure that it is ok

How are you downloading it and from where?

All you really need is the patcher, and then it could assemble the entire install for you from there. Presumably, you're going for the full-client install? I don't know if they have a web-installer ready-made, but if nothing else, I think you can just use the sisi installer and tell it to go for tranquility instead.

From personal experience I would recommend, installing Parallels or use bootcamp as the OS X client is shoddy and unreliable.

On my old iMac, planetary and right clicking on objects in space doesn't seem to function all the time.

Yet when I run it through virtual WinXP through Parallels on the same machine it works just fine. The nice thing about the windows version is that all you have to do is install the patcher and it takes care of everything else.

Some people have reported their OS X clients run fine though so your mileage might vary.

If running virtual windows or bootcamp is not an option, try downloading the entire 6 gb file over again from the EVE website. God speed.

Haven't had issues with the mac client for many years, so that's just bullexcrement.

Some of the things that can lead to corrupted downloads is bad memory and harddrives. In terminal run the following and verify that everything matches, including the file name:

Quote:

>md5 eve-premium_008261_514947-mac.dmg
MD5 (eve-premium_008261_514947-mac.dmg) = 677d48681bb967c5cc9415f6c24ec0f3

>stat -f '%N %z' eve-premium_008261_514947-mac.dmg
eve-premium_008261_514947-mac.dmg 6850355145

So all those problems in the Mac forums that aren't addressed are just the hallucinations of a large group of people?

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=221103&find=unread

I could post more links but hopefully you get the point...

And you are telling me that my problem doesn't exist either?

The truth is there are serious problems for many people who use OS X. I am just making the recommendation that given the choice of going through the pain of installing a 6gb install versus using windows to go through a painless install process.

If it works for you... Fine then... You are just lucky...

Considering the proprietary nature of Apple, there isn't much a user can do to resolve the game problems those people have mention. And lord knows I've tried to get OS X working. I've deleted the game, hunted down every preference file, tried to use the repair tool (which doesn't work anymore).

I would love for OS X to run EVE just fine. I'd be happy to sing its praises if it works, but for many people inclduing myself it doesn't. Strangley enough running Windows version EVE on the very same computer makes it work just fine for many people.

Sorry for the rant, but the problems with the OS X client bother me.

[edit]

The straw that broke the camel's back for me was this issue:

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=224030&find=unread

Where log into the character screen would result in freezing. After blowing away the preferences file it would sometimes work, but most of the time it stopped. Thats why I just started using Windows.

My Mac runs eve just fine too. Also the number of people reporting issues in the Mac forum is tiny compared to the number reported in Issues & Workarounds. Ive been in many fleets where the PC guys are dropping, re-logging and asking for re-invites. To them I say: Get a Mac.

That said, a few people do seem to have persistent and unresolved problems. To those people: The fact that it does work for me and other Mac users indicates the client is in fact a working client. If the client was so terribly broken that it would not even load, then I could not be playing hour after hour. Yet I am, so the client must be useable.

That leaves your internet connection, your computer, and other software you got loaded on your computer. That is where you need to be looking.

To CCP: The Mac client seems to be very sensitive to small issues with the internet, the computer, and other software running on the computer. It needs to be made much more robust. "If architects built buildings the way CCP makes the Mac client, one woodpecker would destroy civilization".

I have already found the solution to the problem. I just use another OS which has a client that seems to be much more robust in handling software problems.

I got that one time when the launcher broke and I had to redownload and reinstall the game. However, I just deleted the download and redownloaded it. That fixed it.

Use bootcamp and install Windows 7, then run Eve from that.

Yes, the patcher, parallels, or you may have to break down and buy a real computer.

Highsec is owned by players now. Systems 0.5-1.0 are New Order Territory. All miners and other residents of Highsec must obey The Code. Mining without a permit is dangerous and harmful to the EVE community. See www.MinerBumping.com
