Null and Low Sec Ice Fields

Question about the Ice changes.

The devs mentioned that all the Hi-sec systems with Ice will retain there ice, but in the new anomaly locations (with the depletion, respawning mechanic). Did they mention that all the low and null sec systems with ice would also retain their ice? Are there null/low sec systems with regularly mined ice belts currently?

Yes, and not all hi-sec has the ice, Amarr /Ammatar/Khanid are going from ~72 to 24 systems with ice anoms

"Most systems that currently have ice belts will contain these new ice anomalies, with the notable exception of many systems in Amarrian, Khanid, and Ammatar high security space. Below I will list all the systems in high security space that will contain spawns of Clear Icicle.

Afivad, Agal, Avada, Bashakru, Chanoun, Dantan, Dihra, Erkinen, Esteban, Gamis, Gelhan, Gosalav, Jarzalad, Jerma, Kothe, Manatirid, Miah, Moutid, Ordion, Raravoss, Riavayed, Seil, Talidal, Warouh.

These will be the only high security systems that will contain Clear Icicle."

From the devblog.

I did a tally on DOTLAN today, for this post Ice and stuff and give or take a few, allowing for double counting, and missing one, there are 72 at present.

Some of the named systems have multiple ice belts atm, but the majority do not.

This takes the number from 140ish atm down to 92(ish).

I got the 140 systems at present by tallying via dotlan.

Fozzie said there were approx 8 icebelts in null/low per highsec belt, and there are 917 total icefield atm.....so, 140 fits within approx 1/8 of that number

Realistically, the Low Sec ice field anomalies won't count.

Sure, they will spawn but few people will bother with them. That would require "locking down" a system, with a support fleet, and a nice, juicy ice mining fleet in Low Sec is just a Hot Drop waiting to happen.

So I'm assuming that after the patch the low and null systems that have ice will always be the known, with the systems that have ice always the same systems.

Yes, from the same numbers devblog:

"All low-security and null-security systems that currently contain static ice belts, as well as all high security systems in Caldari, Gallente and Minmatar space that contain static ice belts, will contain the new ice anomalies."

I was suddenly worried I had messed up, so went back and checked Dotlan again, if anything, 72 is an underestimate

If the ice fields hasn't been changed since august 2007 and grismar is up to date there exists currently 219 icefields(192 systems) in all of highsec

Going back and checking now, but I have checked with a few people about their calculations for the ice anoms post patch, and the values come back as between 92 and 99, so if there are 217 now, that would mean 50% of highsec ice is disappearing

Also, 917 as a total, and if 217 were the number, that would be closer to a 4:1 ratio between low/null and high, whereas Fozzie said it was approx 8

Grismar isn't close to being update. Example: Notice that Black Rise is missing.

He left the game years ago, and left the site as-is at the time he left.

It also has errors, like the racial ice in the wrong region. I believe it is based upon the old player-submitted Ore and Ice Map project, not the database.

Still, the site can be useful if you realize its limitations.

I exported the ice field systems, and it gave me a total of 145 fields, which is largely in line with the 140 I used in my calculations, and explains why some people I spoke to came up with 97 post patch, whereas I got 92

Any hint on how big these ice anoms will be?

High Sec:
CCP seems to think the high sec ones will be mined out in an hour or so. They are calculating ice availability based on the anoms being cycled 4 times a day, with 4 hour delay from being mined out to respawn. But, I wonder, how many exhumers are they thinking that will be? 20 people to mine it out in an hour? 50? 100? 1000?

Low/Null:
Will the amount of ice in the anom be tied to sec status? Will the low/null anoms have more ice, taking longer to mine out?

Anyone seen any hints, have any data on these questions?

I'm trying to figure out if I should start hoarding ice now, or sell all i have.

Estimates given of around 45min for 30 miners in High sec to deplete the anom. So I would hoard the ice until the changes , I have switched to Ice mining entirely.

There will be 2500 units per anom, they have calculated on 5 spawns a day, which gives 48 minutes to empty a belt, people with calculators and stuff about cycle times and yield have said this is 24 macks with orca boosts.

Low sec and null have approx 8* the amount of anoms as empire, moreso after the reductions

Info for my calculations are in here, so feel free to rip them apart *hides*

Trust me, you are not the only one.

I'm speculating that there will be a huge glut in the market shortly and the price will plunge to the lowest it's been in years. The amount of WTBs for ice miners in the CB help with idea as well.

So I will wait a bit before dropping billions into ice acquisition hoping it will shoot up again a while after the expansion. I'm either going to make a bundle or lose my shirt. Speculation is a game that should not be played by those without big huevos.
