All, I am new and trying this out. My one basic question is about PVE or PVP. I am having problem finding if this game is all PvP or not. I am not really into PvP all that much so trying to figure if there is a mix here or not.

Thanks All!!!!

There are equal shares of PvE and PvP. All depends on what YOU want to do. I focused on PvE but enjoy PvP when my 2.5mil SP permits it :P

While EVE certainly has its share of PVE and you can do fine if you enjoy that the most, EVE has its ways to force PVP onto you and there's several ways of dealing with it:

1) close your eyes and try to wish it away
2) state that pvp is for 12 yearold insecure boys who also pull the wings off of flies
3) whine and about it when it happens to you and blame others for your misfortune
4) realise that it simply may happen, read up on stuff, inform yourself, prepare for it and simply don't do foolish stuff that might/will get you killed

Door #4 is the option for smart people, however most will pick 1-3 and generally all at the same time.

Dont forget

5) Rage quit and never play an MMO with PvP in again.

So it's optional sometimes? I guess I am trying to understand. Is PvP "end game" or is it specific areas that allows for greater rewards?

Also, I am assuming that it warns you what a PvP area is?

Thanks!

PVP happens everywhere and effectively right from the start.

- buying/selling on the market is pvp
- trying to outdo others when it comes to scarce asteroid is pvp
- trying to haul your expensive wares and loot to another location might be pvp, where you have to do your best to not get blown up. (many idiots haul massively expensive goods in flimsy ships, then get blown up in hopes of loot drop and then whine about it)
- your corp might get wardecced
- you might have your can of ore being flipped by someone
- perhaps you ended up in low sec and you're trying to live and survive there

In EVE PVP is all around you and you can't completely avoid it, all you can (and should) do is to make informed decisions to lower the chance of someone taking you from behind, and it's up to you to leave it at that or to become the offender yourself... or not :)

He just asked if there was any PvE content, he didn't need a thesis on what was there

Thanks all. I am giving the game a try.

I am a long time MMO'er but really always avoided this game because of people telling me how large the learning curve was/is. It's sure no WoW...:)

EVE is a PvP heavy game.

It doesn't warn you and when ever you undock your ship you can be dragged into PvP. There are NO safe zones or what so ever, people can and will PvP everywhere.

Deal with it and with some clever thinking and acting you can negate most PvP.

That said, sure EVE has PvE, but it's very very limited and can become rather repetitive quickly.

Also stop talking in terms that are used in other MMOs...EVE doesn't have a clear end game because EVE is what you make of it.

You make your own goals and end game. For some it's flying too expensive bling ships with officer mods for others it's shooting said ships down for lulz and profit.

If you don't like PvP, it may be a bad idea playing a game where the entire world is PvP enabled.

The "Undock" button tell you that you are entering a "Ship to Ship" PVP area...
Most other areas in Eve are PvP as you must compete against other players, the market for instance.

And yes PvP is optional, however its a option to everyone else as well... if they want PvP and they chose you, you'll have rounds incoming...

I'm fairly new but I'll throw in my two cents based on what I've learned so far.

While this is only a game, the comparison to real life when it comes to violent encounters is absolute. There are certain areas where fights are less likely to happen because there is more security around or there are just "nicer" people in that system and there are areas where you may not want to get caught walking alone, so to speak.

Just like in reality, you can be attacked at anytime there are people around you. The game (at least for me) is easier to understand and have fun in once you realize that point and not worry about what areas are safe to be in, because there aren't any. Its something that a lot of games lack these days, not being predictable.

Everything you think you know about MMOs, throw that out of the window and forget it, virtually everything that is considered griefing in other MMOs is normal gameplay here.

You're free to opt out of ship to ship PvP, never undock and just market trade.
Once undocked PvP is optional, right up until the moment somebody decides that it's not.

PvP is the ultimate PvE, other players make for an incredibly devious and unpredictable AI to pit your wits against.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Basically:

There are PVE elements to the game - exploration, missions, Epic Arcs, and the like - but anywhere and everywhere, you can be engaged by other players. You'll find traps, suicide gankers, pirates, extortionists, and people whose avowed mission is to wreck the game for anyone but them. But you'll also find groups that will gladly teach you how to survive and thrive in the game world - and who will watch your back as you learn, if you're lucky.

You might actually discover a talent for PVP as you go, but if not, you can still learn how to do PVE effectively. You just need to learn what caution means in this game.

I am also a new player and so far have been lucky with my first 3 weeks. I spend alot of time just running missions to challenge my self and learn how to fit ships properly. My first PVP encounter was when I bought a ship for a great deal. Unfortunatly it took me to low sec space but when I travel I use my fastest ship and load it with armor. I was able to get in and out while being attacked. The game is fun just remmeber that its not about obtaining gear to get better and stronger, but gaining knowledge and skill to outperform other players.

If you are really nervous about PVP just stay in high sec space and don't advertise your self. Just watch a guy talking about selling plex get ganked while transporting it. dont know if he actually lost it but my god was it stupid. Trust me, I was a fantasy action MMO player but this game has really won me over since playing for 10 hours a day doesn't make you any stronger then the guy who plays 2 hours a day.
