scan probe echoes?

So I never play with eve's music on- I always use my own. Today I had no music on, and I noticed while sitting in a wormhole that suddenly there was a very faint noise, which sounded near-identical to the noise scan probes make when you press the "scan" button...

Is it just ambient noise, or did ccp maybe put a little "echo" into the game, for the in-the-knows and very observant to hear, and know if they've just been scanned?

It's in ambient noise.

Confirming that scan probes and on-board system scanner indeed make faint noise when scanning is in progress (my EVE has sound).

I just hope that those more important noises devs promised to incorporate into exploration minigames as a part of puzzle (if it can be called such) will be a bit more distinct.

Yup - they do for quite long time now, but only to guy who is scanning with them (also have sound in EvE on Cool).

Oh God! You're being scanned as we speak, warp to the Sun!

well seeing as there is no pressure in space for sound to travel. I like to imagine everything we hear is over the ships com device. Everything we hear is a mix of electro-magnetic interference do to various amounts of energetic distortion. Like explosions, guns, probes etc. It would make sense if you were able to pick up a probe echo theoretically. I guess.

That's actually sort-of how it works: in the lore, pods generate simulated sound effects for the capsuleer inside. :)
