TLDR -

Primae Style Hulls, 3 new industrials:

Ore Industrial -
1 high slot
Raw Ore Hold of 60k
Refined Ore hold of 30K
Cargo hold of 400

Primae MK II - Bigger verson of a Primae

T2 Ore industrial = JUMP Industrial - only able to carry raw / refined minerals / gas / ice / moon goo.
Does not get cloaky, does not get uber defense stats. Able to jump to covert or normal cynos.

CCP has done an awesome job of fleshing out ORE and it's role in eve. It gives a specific faction and line of ships to industrialists and miners. Over the last several iterations ORE has literally taken over all of the mining ship production in New Eden! Yay for industrial monopolies!

That said, they are still sorely lacking in one department - A reliable high volume entry level hauler.

Unfortunately the Noctis doesn't count. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful ship. It has it's role and does it well. But at a maxiumum of 4,000 m3 of available cargo space it doesn't hold a candle to even the most basic tech 1 hauler.

This means ORE has to outsource their day to day hauling requirements for simple large ore and materials loads to empire faction industrials. This means poor loyal ORE employees have to reach out to those silly war-minded empire dwellers to receive both a frigate license (which can be determined as completely useless to a hard core industrialist), and a empire faction industrial liscence.

Aaaand, they have to earn a specific ore certification license just to fly their corporate industrial flag ship. That's three ship skills just to be able to haul stuff around at a basic level.

Well, Lets fix that!

Ore is a company that designs specific niche role filling ships, so lets keep that in mind when proposing our new designs.

********************

What they need:

An industrial that can handle large quantities of industrial level goods and materials. Be it gas / ore / refined minerals or planetary interaction goods.

Ore needs it's own industrial to ferry goods out of the centralized cargo hold of a roqual or orca. The budding industrialist needs a ship that can haul unprocessed ore between stations to get their refinement and then potentially carry refined minerals to market.

An advanced industrialist needs to be able to haul large quantities of PI materials and command structures between planets and to market.

If these requirements are met, the industrialist also needs equivalent hulls that are designed to operate within the lawless confines of 0.0 space (T2 variants). More specifically, they need to get in and out of Null sec and around low sec. But this is ORE were talking about here. You never see them with security convoys moving through space.... I have an interesting proposal for their T2 hulls...

*******************

What they don't need:

A ship that can haul assembled modules or ships (the orca and to a lesser extent the nautics can do these things. Also, normal industrials can fill this role.

A ship that deliberately tries to engage in offensive combat.

*******************

I was going to go into a big loooong speal about why I picked the numbers I did, but to save you all, and this thread, I'll just post what I figured up.

Should cost 2-3x the cost of an Ity 5, but no more than 15 million.

Nautics MKII - Same as the Nautics, 1 high slot,
10% bonus to Agility
10% bonus to ORE hold and Refined Materials hold.
Cargo Space - 400m3 (Just enough to bring back a load of mining crystals or specialty modules)
Raw Ore Hold - 60,000m3 MAX (Able to support emptying an Orca supporting 8 hulks by himself) (Able to handle ice and gas)
Refined Mineral Hold - 20,000m3 MAX (To haul refined materials to market) (Able to handle isotopes, gas products, as well as refined minerals)

1 High Slot (no turret slot, so no gas harvester or mining laser could be fit, just a tractor or a cloak)
3 mids
2 lows

Would fill the support role and mineral to market role without over shadowing the general haulers. Able to support mining specific operations at max skill level beter than an Itty V while loosing the general free trade capabilities. gives the budding industrialist acess to market maneuverability without having to train racial specific haulers and associated frigate skills.

**************

I must say I REALLY liked the idea of a dedicated PI ship. We really should go back to that.

Just like above, we will simply increase cargo sizes:

Primae MKII
10% bonus to agility
10% bonus to plantary commodities hold
cargo space 1,000m3
Planetary command center hold = 10,000m3 - static
Planetary commodities hold - MAX 40,000m3
1 high slot
4 mids
1 low

(Able to fit a buffer tank? Low Sec / Null Sec pilots are vulnerable when picking up / dropping off goods at customs offices)

*****************

T2 Variant - JUMP capable industrials ^.^

Havent really thought about blockade runners for ORE, as the traditional idea of a covert cloak / super tanking indy seems out of place for ORE. They seem more froggy, a little more elusive, and a little more direct and to the point.

T2 variants would have build in JUMP drives. Able to jump to and land with any specific covert or non covert jump becon that's been lite. The down side? No covert ops cloaking device (but one high slot just to fit a standard cloak). Use the same or similar stats to the ones above or decrease max cargo (ore/pi) spaces by 25-40%.

Would give an interesting alternative to the jump freighter (MUCH smaller cargo spaces, specific cargo only), and would fill a specific niche and role, possibly helping the null sec economy boom, driving down prices, making things more affordable, more PVP etc. etc. etc.

500m3 - limited cargo
35k Total Specialized cargo - Fuel, moon goo, minerals, ore, ice, gas, PI.

Okay, that's my two cents.

Bump

And a friendly linkie to a similar thread trying to figure out how to play with industrials:

Blockade Runners and.....

I'd like to see the Primae become a non-limited ship. Here's my idea for making it useful:

Add it as a tutorial reward for players who complete the PI tutorial (there should be a PI tutorial)
It should have a base commodities hold of 750m3 and gain 4000m3 for every level of the ORE industrial skill. This skill would not be required to fly it. So people on trial accounts could have sore of a mini-industrial only for PI, but they have to subscribe to get either actual industrials or a Primae that can carry very much. The actual amounts here may need a lot of adjustment. Basically it should be low yet significant on a trial account, and more than a non-rigged industrial for a non-trial account. Maybe it should have a cargohold of 750m3 and the commodities hold is actually unlocked when you train the ORE industrial skill. It could have a base value of 10,000m3 and go up 20% per level.

The command center hold should have 1000m3 of space multiplied by the level of the pilot's Interplanetary Consolidation skill, so that they can hold as many command centers as they can place.

It would still be a fairly measly and cheap ship, but it would be a great way for new players to get into PI, and it would be affordable to them, too.

Another thing that could be done with the Primae is instead of a commodities hold, give it a bulk goods hold that can be used to ferry PI mats, ORE, ice, gas, minerals, fuel, manufacturing goods and materials, etc. -- but not ammo, modules, ships, and other assembled items. It could have a hold size similar to a retriever if not bigger. That would make it useful for ferrying this stuff, since it is often produced in large volumes and can be difficult to transport in a normal industrial.

Give the primae a 10k commodities hold and you will increase it's usefulness expoentially. Add some ore stations to highsec and lowsec (1 or 2 per region) where you can purchase 1-run primae bpc's through the lp store would make the ship more available and lower the price a bit so there's an incentive to use it over a lower end industrial ship
