Your settings are contained in a file. Make a copy of that file and you're backed up.

So, you telling us that you fail to build a solid backup solution for your data, and ask CCP for help? I got it right?

Speak for yourself. I accept it just fine. Lose the client, lose the settings. It isn't as hard to set them back as you seem to imply, and seeing as you can backup the settings already, albeit in a slightly more complicated way, it does not warrant CCP intervention.

if you have big amount of data, you are doing it wrong.

the folder to save is: %LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_(x86)_ccp_eve_tranquility\Settings

to be done for each client installation, "c_program_files_(x86)_ccp_eve_tranquility" will be adjusted according to your client install path.

all the other folders, which take large amount of Mb, are caches and can be discarded

5 install here including various test server ones, total setting backup is around 1-2Mb

it is not CCP responsability to backup YOUR files, deal with it yourself, it takes 10 sec to back them up, and 20 sec to write a script that will do it peroidically / on demand.

ppl are lazy....

You can save all overview settings right through the overview-options.... ( Export overview settings ).

All other stuff can be adjusted with ease... If that's not easy for you, stop drinking/smoking whatever you currently use.

i assume they were not talking about overview but more about window positions and stuff.

and this is pretty fast & simple to backup as well, as i explained in my previous post

Thx Shocked

The "Tool" I ask for is 3 thing function.
1 Backup ( as al nice replys has notised, very good I'am impressed , dhaaa ) sorry Lol
2 export of overview / window / al-****-settings ( and if that takes any one a few min. to fix, then, THEY have missed what EvE can do. Sorry 2
AND 3 the VIP function, importing settings to your extra client / pal / corp/ you might get it.

I was actually musing over a related idea where CCP could provide Dropbox or Box.net integration for settings files. In effect what it would do is move the settings files to a folder in your Dropbox/whatever sync location.

So from a user perspective they could open the launcher and from the settings choose a check box option to sync settings with whatever file sync services you have installed. Under the covers this would just make EVE copy and reference the settings from the appropriate sync folder.

On a new EVE install it should then check these locations to see if any existing synced settings are available.

what keeps you from manually uploading those beforehand and then restore on new instalation?
