I just need something to throw ore into while in a system with no stations, then I can haul it out and refine it next system over, and then tear down the POS at the end of the day and repeat as needed.

For that, don't worry about defenses, and consider more efficient storage options than CHAs, like various Ship assembly arrays.

Tbh, mining already doesn't make a whole lot of isk (or has this changed?). I would think adding an un-needed cost would just make it that much worse.

If this is just for storage, do what the others have said and use freight containers at a safe.

0.5 pos will be relatively safe at all times (barring a 'dec).

My standard POS layout is

large stick (whichever, though Amarr or Minmatar are preferred)
9 hardeners in 3/3/2/1 compared to the resists (POS are 0/0/25/50). 5 would be OK in HS. These are always online.
Whichever labs (or other storage) I need to do what I want.
As many guns (Lasers for Amarr, Projectiles for everyone else), and ewar as I can online with the remaining PG, laid out in 3-d '+' shapes, at the top, bottom, and cardinal points of the equator.
Spare guns and EWAR, loaded and anchored just waiting to be onlined.

Ah, so you deploy "prep" guns and such for online, when and if you need to augment the defense... learned something there.

Yes, well, I operate in low/null, so the fitting is different. That said, a POS like my fit would take something like thirty (!) dreads to RF in one cycle (5 minutes). You don't have that in HS, so unless the other guy has a few hundred BS to sit on the POS, it won't be worth it.

If you're only putting it up for a few days (less than 3 or 4, e.g. a long weekend), don't even bother with the guns, there's not enough time for someone to 'dec you to shoot the POS.

Also, switch from CHAs to one medium or large Ship assy array -- those can hold like 18 million m3.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

I am still considering the Small Unarmed HS Pos, but I am def going to use the POEFC in the mean time... it actually fits very well with my personal philosophy of "do the most with the lease" --- since I am something of a Mining Gypsie or Vagabond... the idea of a "Large Cardboard Box" style of POS seems ot work... hehe.

I have tested that out on SISI and found your all correct on this, it's a pretty good idea, as long as it's in a SS (can't be scanned down), and can't be picked up by other than a freighter, etc... all very nice features! I declair it the Poor-Man's POS... or Player Owned Enormous Freight Container, meet the POEFC!... now I just have to figure out how to put a few more smaller can's on it and then a tin-cup outside and run an extension cord into it. This def fits the bill... anchors anywhere, etc.

Thanks for the help, I shall now put the POS on the back burner for now and enjoy this novel approach.

Why not just drop a freight container at a safespot and use that ? Doesn't despawn, doesn't cost what a POS does.

I have tried this the can was set up at 23:06 and at 02:47 I checked the location and it was still up and intact... by despawn what do you mean? they will stay until down-time reset or ? - how long does it stay in place and intact before it pops?

I mean exactly what I said. It does not despawn, not after hours, not at down time.

So they NEVER pop or anything - they are a permanent feature..VERY NICE... ok so 1 is all you really ever need unless someone blows it up or takes it (freighter). So as long as I put it there I can simply keep using it until the latter... nice.

I think it was Bugsy who said he dropped one the first day that was possible and it was still there a couple months later.
