You could just have the missus pose for you... worked for me.

Another vote for abusing the randomize button.

As for makeup, as a male your best bet is just to never exand the makeup bars ever. Simple as that.

After screwing around with the character creator a lot, I've found that the most important bit for the final result is the expression, pose and lighting, then the makeup/hair/tattoos/piercings and then the actual sculpting.

Pretty much this.

The proportions of your model look fine. In general if you keep away from the biggest boobs and smallest waste you can get a fairly *average* look. As for the face and make-up, keep it neutral and light-ish for a skin tone like that, as try and stay away from going with thick black eye liner or really bright colours.

*edit* that's not to say you can't get away with the more *extreme* makeup / piercings / scarings, just that it'll take some practice to get it right. If you do want to go with that, keep it simple. Pick one, maybe two, striking features and resist the temptation to go with more.

Souxie Alduin is a pretty good example, eyeliner and tattoo, same colour with the rest fairly neutral. It's striking but simple.

Whether the character is male or female the above may help you get to a portrait you're happy with.

As for make up, regardless of gender - makeup can help with lighting and "bloody" white hot-spots some lighting can create. Colored make up if new to it, you probably want to go very gentle with. Strong / noteworthy color can be used to highlight features while others are left muted, supporting the high-lit regions with pronounced color. Strong color lips, muted eyes, or the reverse. Both with strong use of color can create a fantastical / clownish appearance if you're not careful (unless appearing the clown IS your intention).

There are seemingly some minor quirks with the creator related to sculpting. While most people will probably concentrate on creating the right expression, facial features and general musculature, you want to make certain you're happy with the overall body of the character while wearing *each layer of clothing*. A character that looks fine / normal in a form fitting flight suit, - has the potential to inadvertently have certain bodily features exaggerated / overly endowed when wearing the final outer layer clothing options, - jackets, 'traditional' semi-long coat etc.

-Note
If you want to learn even more about makeup for whatever reason / purpose, there are actually a large number of youtube videos with people applying makeup / giving lessons on how to effectively apply & create certain creative 'looks' with it.

With makeup, there are two rules:

1. Keep everything very light, harmonious, and neutral
2. Break rule 1 to deliberately bring attention to something

That's all you need to know ever. The rest is just playing around and having fun.
