Loadouts overall help

I was wondering how do most players search for a loadout.

Let me explain. Even after all this time, I still have some trouble deciding what type of ship is better for a specific task, and its respective modules.

I certainly could use EFT, but then again I would have trouble knowing if it was a good fit I was building, or not.

I would like to know if most people use this site aswell: http://eve.battleclinic.com/browse_loadouts.php , or if it is outdated.

Thanks everyone for the help! Smile

I hate Battleclinic for 3 reasons:

1.) Most fits are horribly outdated.
2.) A lot of fits are just EFT warrior fits without actual proof it works in game.
3.) I rather build my own fits.

How do I do it...trial and error.

Eventually you get an idea what ships are good at things and which ones aren't good...then it's just try to build a fit for what you want to do...and after that trial and error to make it better.

EDIT:

What also works great...the Test server. Specially for some more expensive trial and error things.

Stuff there cost 100 ISK each...so you can use almost no ISK to try a lot of stuff.

Thank you for the quick reply J'Poll! :)

I also had that idea about Battleclinic, at least now I can confirm I'm not alone in this matter.

I was actually trying to avoid trial and error, but the test server is definitely a great idea and can provide me with lots of room of maneuverability!

But how do you go about testing for example a pvp fit on the test server? Is it through the normal means of "pvping" (as in go into low sec and try to find a fight)? And is that even allowed on the test server? P

Thanks again for the info! Smile

yes, you can pvp on the test server.

as for good loadouts: after a while, you will get a feeling for which modules do what and will be able to intuitively create a good fit for any given ship and task. in the mean time, the best place to look for good loadouts is the ships and modules forum. use the forum search with terms like 'pvp rifter' or 'lvl3 mission hurricane' and you will often find what you want. if you don't, start an own thread where you describe your goal as precisely as possible.

battleclinic is a horrible place and you should never go there.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I really didn't knew you could pvp in the test server, I thought it was kind against the rules, as you were technically "playing" P, but that is good news indeed!

I'll also be giving the forum a try then, also a great idea thanks!

I have to admit, after reading a lot of ALOD (which I still don't know what the exactly the word means P ) posts on the Mittani.com, I am trying to avoid being the laughingstock of the entire EVE community as much as possible hehe Smile

Very well then Battleclinic is really out of the question then Smile

Thanks for the additional info Daniel, appreciate it! Smile

PvP on the test server is actually quite easy compared to normal server.

There is a certain system where everybody meets up to PvP, and the fun part. There is a special channel that you can join and you type in moveme and a CCP employee will teleport you into the system...

There are better choices than Battleclinic to get a few ideas...

I have deliberately developed an air of cynicism that I originally intended to make me appear somewhat louche and caddish but actually comes across as irritable hostility combined with the unspoken threat of sudden violence.....

ALOD stands for 'awful loss of the day'. if you want to avoid being laughed at, avoid spending stupid amounts of isk on modules unless you know what you are doing.

I should buy an Ishtar.

To add to J'Poll's wisdom: please read the test server rules first.

Since it isn't documented, and some people are mighty unimaginative:

How to make ISK on the test server
1. Buy a ship, preferably the largest you can pilot. It will cost you 100 ISK (nearly everything costs 100 ISK on SiSi).
2. Insure the ship. Platinum if you can afford it. This is optional, but HIGHLY recommended.
3. Undock and self-destruct your ship. Please don't do it right on the undock-ring.
4. Go to step 1.

You will often find scores of dead capitals outside hisec station systems like Niyabainen (one jump from Jita).

So far, as a newish guy, I have found EVE UNI keeps some good, proven, builds on display in their ship fitting section (see bottom left of page) for the various T1 ships that you can use as is or as a guide for creating your own improved versions. There are also lots of articles and recorded classes there to help learn about fitting.

+1 for the test server. Also it's really (REALLY) easy to get a ton of ISK -- just buy something you can fly (e.g. a cruiser), self destruct, claim insurance payout (well, this is automatic, but you get the idea).

edit -- bah, missed Tau's post!

I see others mentioning other fitting guide sites. Some (not all) of them were likely updated with the tiericide changes, others may not have been. Before you go off flying some fit that's posted there, double-check it in EFT/pyfa with your skills and see if the numbers come close (keeping in mind most fits like that assume all 5, and perfect hitting -- 0 transversal, same size or larger target). If they do, then great it's an updated fit; if they don't then double check the ship description and bonuses in game, as things have gotten moved around.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Thanks alot everyone for all the help! Smile

What I'll start doing then is:

1. Taking a look at not only the forums, but also the other sites which you all provided for information on the types of fits.

2. Then I'll check them out through EFT and, if everything seems okay, I'll be taking them on a test run, using the test server.

Not only will it help me understand the fits and how to put them together, but also get a "feel" of how they would actually perform in scenario at hand.

If I can't find a fit or just feel like going a little crazy, I'll try and make my own. hehe P

I hope that with this procedure, I can start understanding more about the diferent types of ships and fits out there and actually achieve better results!

Thanks again for all your help guys! Really appreciated! Smile

I really prefer my own fits.

Because then I understand why module X is on it. This doesn't mean that fits posted by others are bad, but you just don't "know" why he made the fit like that. Sure a lot of modules will clearly tell why they are on it, but the whole "why is it fitted exactly like this" is missing.

And with my own fits, I know after each loss where I can improve it, whereas fits from other people I first have to check what happens if I change Module Y instead of Module Z.

EDIT:

And fitting ships...it will come with time. Now a days I hardly think about what modules do I need or how should I fit a ship unless I have never flown it before (or CCP massively changed the ship). Practice makes perfect, the more fits you build yourself the more you will know what works and what just won't work.

I understand your point of view J'Poll.

I still need to learn a lot about the different types of ships out there, what their overall purpose is, etc.
So by picking one of these "predefined" fits, I was hoping to be able to play around with them and as a result get a better feel of what the ship might be better used for.

The whole test server concept is really great, because it allows me to not be concerned at all with the loss factor which means I can be more relaxed in testing out the various fits that I might grab, but also make some along the way P

I could try indeed, doing the other way around, as in start tinkering now, coming up with my own fits, and then at a later time, when I have more experience with it, take a look at various fits out there and just compare them through EFT for example! Smile

I'll have to think about it, but again thanks for the additional info! Smile
