It goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway and give him a bump) that Ripard will be on my recommended ballot.

CCP is going to bail out more losing players who can't be bothered to tank their ships or learn proper pvp avoidance before the evil gankers grief them into quitting?

On the other hand, I'm looking foward to seeing more battle badgers. The battlecruiser-barge has already proven to be a hilarious success.

Features working as intended I suppose.

If you told me 8 months ago I'd be endorsing Ripard Teg for CSM I'd have laughed till it hurt. But Ripard has really stepped his game up and stepped his chain up.

I endorse Ripard Teg

Since you already got my vote on your stance on activism in your blogspot towards eve online, may I ask you a favor:

Please relay the message we need Wooly Hats in the aurum store, srsly not kidding, I want one to and we still got that free aurum left over from that eve-is-real idea Cool

Eve online is :

I think I could get behind an unironic endorsement of hats. Maybe if something happens to prevent the World of Darkness MMO, we'll get theirs.

Voting is just about wrapped up, so I wanted to take a second and thank everyone who supported my run this year! Whether I win or lose, I couldn't be more pleased with how things went... much less stressful and more organized than last time.

I'll look forward to meeting a whole lot of you in Iceland in about a week!

Before the polls close

How do you feel about the new STV voting system?

Do you understand it?

How do you feel about fact we can only identify 2 members of CSM7 who supported it?

Do you want it removed for a better or simpler system, while voting numbers are so low?

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!

I understand STV reasonably well, I think. I also think STV is a good system in a perfect world. How it's going to operate in practical terms with EVE voters remains to be seen. I will be very interested to see if CCP releases composites of the ballots, ie "7500 people voted the straight CFC ticket, and 85% of them did so on day three when they could use the script..." either to the public or to the CSM.

At the very least, I would expect we'll hear how many votes were cast and how many were "exhausted", meaning they were votes for losing candidates.

My instinct is that a lot more null-sec voters voted a full slate of 14 candidates than non-null-sec voters did. My further instinct is that's going to be the tipping point that gives null-sec eight seats on CSM8 because more non-null-sec votes will be exhausted sooner.

All that said, I don't think STV or lack thereof is going to be such that it will make much of a difference this particular year. The candidates were well-differentiated this time around and I suspect we're going to see pretty bright dividing lines in how people voted. At the end of the day, the only factor that really matters is that 14 people will be on the CSM, not in what order they're in or how they got there. The one thing we definitely won't see? CCP releasing how the election would have gone with a FPTP system. There are certainly way too many CFC and HBC votes out there with mynnna and Sort at the top to make such a thing possible.

tl;dr: I'm not opposed to STV, but I suspect it works better in a perfect world than it does in this one. That said, I don't think we're going to find it made all that much of a difference this time around given that there are 14 seats with no differences between them.

We'll all know how it went in a week and a day.

CCP will be releasing all the ballots in .blt form. You won't know who voted for whom, but you will have all the information needed to verify and analyse the election using either CCP Veritas' or my Wright-STV python scripts. So you will be able to determine how many people voted the full CFC ticket, how many said "screw the HBC" and only voted for the CFC candidates, and so on.

With respect to exhausted ballots, this is much more likely to be a factor in the top-2 election. Anyone with more than a few candidates on their ballot is unlikely to exhaust their ballot in the top-14 election, though if their ballot gets reduced to their final choice and that candidate is strong enough to transfer overvotes, some of their voting power will be lost. The tl/dr is that it might possibly change who squeaks into the final seat.

One thing that CCP probably won't be releasing (I don't know if they even have the information) would be a .blt file that lists each individual ballot cast in the order that they were recorded. With this plus information on how many people voted during each 24 hour period, you would be able to do some fascinating analysis.

I found it really hard to fully use my ballot. After discarding the candidates on the blue-donut's screw-the-CSM slate and discarding candidates for normal reasons, I wasn't even left with 14.

What Malcanis said above.

Also, I think it would be interesting to see what percentage of voters voted for 14 candidates, how many for 13, how many for three (because only three slots are initially visible on the voting page), etc.

The voting scripts will influence that result, but that in itself is information, if you correlate the number and order of candidates to known scripts.

I would still like to see "I voted" banners on peoples portraits here on the forums.

It would raise peoples awareness of the CSM as well as giving us hard data on whether most of the people who whine, do not vote.
