CharacterID.xml.aspx , Character, Corp or Alliance?

Hello there...

is there anyway to find out if an ID is a corp, character or alliance without trying it out with CharacterSheet.xml and then CorporationSheet

I'm taking my IDs from the ContactList, but hard to tell what is what without hammering the API Servers (and getting temporary banned)

Not comprehensively, no.

But see also the caveat that comes with it. If it's not in those ranges you can't tell without risking being banned for errors.

Also see middle paragraph in https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=210627&find=unread where CCP Prism X agrees it's a gap in the API.
