Compare this statement to:
Quote:
... we may, in our sole discretion, deliver appropriate penalties for players that engage in cache scraping after 15 April 2013 (including temporary or permanent bans)

Perhaps CCP need a serious lesson in effective communication?

+1 to that, but then we've known that for years already...

That statement does not, however, directly state that everyone using cache scraping will be subject to a ban, but rather that CCP is free to decide whether or not what a specific person is using it for should be punishable by a ban, or whether their practice is acceptable, in which case the appropriate penalty is do nothing.

And since CCP can ban for any reason they feel is good and sufficient, well, the state-of-play hasn't really changed much, has it? Save taht now we have firm policy to consider when making our risk-benefit analysis.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

EVE central didn't always use cache scraping. What it used to do is have people run a program in the background that would upload logs generated from pressing the button in the market window. They will simply go back to doing that now.

Only difference is that EVE-central results get slightly less reliable

I've addressed some of the concerns regarding CCPs policy on cache scraping here:
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2900665#post2900665

tl;dr: CCP confirms that we will only impose penalties on cache scraping if used in connection with other illegal activities in the game (i.e., botting). We will not take action against cache scraping for other uses.

eve-central is harmful to the game. It provides an unfair advantage over people who don't use it. It homogenizes the markets, providing a tool to RMTers to maximize their profits.

So is that a really round about way of saying that eve-central can continue to exist in its current form?

Quotes without context are so useful for whipping the mob into a mindless frenzy eh?

No, CCP exercises their right to NOT shut down 3rd party software that cache scrapes for utility purposes, only those programs that use the info to hack, bot, or RMT will be penalized.

The OP could have pointed out that part as well, but that wouldn't have gotten the desired reaction. Smile
