first of, just wow!

Only other time I have got really emotional about a film was back when I was a child and watching the first free willy (the part where he had to say goodbye!).

This film really hit me, a guy doing what he loves no matter what, however I have to say my view of Alain Prost, has dropped big time, what a total a-hole seriously, he could not win on the track so he went and found some silly rule in the book, and when Senna spoke out about it, he got further punishment!!

The part however that hit me the most in this film, is not the death itself, but if you are observant... he know he was going to die that day, let me explain..

Extract from his sister 'he asked for God to talk to him that morning... he opened the bible and on that page it said 'today God shall grant you the greatest gift' to Senna this was God himself... think about it

Also MAJOR respect for Sid Watkins, what a guy, what a horrible job at times, truely a great man... and I hope that God forbid if the day comes that he dies, he can go on that fishing trip with Senna at last..

Seriously even if you are not a motorsports fan, this is one of those films you have to see

It is a great window into that era of motor racing and Formula 1.

This is my era, the one where i was young and influenced by the stars, had my heroes and villains etc. but was also moving into the driving world myself.

I was cheering the Brits as always but Senna was unignorable. What this film did was expand on what i was seeing at the time and gave depth to an awful lot that got hidden away as well, both by TV and the FIA jerks - and yes, they were jerks even before this movie. Just being able to actually see the driver meetings we heard about at the time was awesome - and burst so many assumption bubbles about some drivers.

BTW - LOL at Mansell in his flat cap in the meetings.

Probably the eariest moment i got from the movie was the Brazilian Christmas TV Show Senna appeared on after his first title.
The TV presenter kissed him and wished him a wonderful year for every upcoming year... and stopped at 1993.

Short career... Massive impact.

You say you believe Senna knew he was going to die that day. I say every single driver in that title race that year knew someone was going to die. The combination of removal of the active parts of the cars which had been developed the year before for use of those parts and then hurriedly redeveloped due to time constraints without them and the knowledge that the tracks were seriously in need of redevelopment due to the progress of the cars. The REDICULOUS Iron Fist of the FIA at the time meaning any public and sometimes even private dispute or disgruntlement would mean a drivers title or even the entire team title...... not good.

a lot of the bad calls by FIA then make all the more recent 'bad calls' seem pathetic, I guess the FIA will always be the FIA, but at least they are not as bad as they were then, and actually seem to care about the drivers, if at least only on the safety front..

I first started watching f1 around the time Damon Hill won the WDC. I kept hearing about this Senna, and wondered who he was, the internet revolution came, and I could see videos on youtube of some of his amazing drives, but even so, I still had no real idea who this guy that people called the greatest ever was, until this film.

Senna was a driver who most likely at times felt the whole world was against him, or at least the majority of the f1 world, he did what he loved, and he loved racing more than anything else, that much is clear.. he should of been champion so many more times, we were robbed of great fights between Senna and Schumacher.

But as for the things that were bad... Alain Prost... Kharma is a *****, he created his own team, which apart from a couple of good performances never really shone, and eventually went bankrupt...

but like I said before, I didnt really know the guy before the film, and while it would be wrong to assume I do now, I do know a lot more, enough to make me feel emotional when they showed his death, and I am a pretty strong person, I do not cry much at all!

I did not watch the end of the film, I was that bad! stopped watching as they put him in the ambulance, was too much for me....

All this in a week we have lost two other motorsport greats Marco Simoncelli and Dan Wheldon RIP

Agreed... im a near forty year old man and i choke at one particular piece of film on this subject - the original BBC broadcast with Murray Walkers commentary... its in his voice, Murray had a lot of time and good times for Senna, when he comes into view mid bend on Tamberello and the car suddenly slews - Murray just screams "Senna..." and watches as his friend dies. The moments after, those 10 seconds he cannot find words almost.

We saw one of the great race finishes in that the gearbox on his car was jammed in 7th gear, senna had a nice lead in first place, and despite that massive disadvantage, he kept the lead for those last 6 laps and finished first anyhow.....We don't see drivers struggle with a busted gearbox these days and still finish their races in first anyhow.

he was in such pain at the end of the race that he told everybody not to touch him, and let's face it, when it comes to driving in the rain, he was one of the kings of driving in those conditions...

Absolute legend, I still remember the crash Sad

I never really appreciated him at the time, he was just the guy who beat the Ferraris too often for my liking, but looking back he was incredible. Shame old Enzo never signed him up.

IMO one of the greatest drives in F1 history is Schumacher, '94 Spanish GP. He gets stuck in 5th gear. Not for 6 laps, but for FORTY. He finishes second. He's way off the pace for about 3-5laps then somehow invents a new driving style and is lapping within a second of his pace before it happened o.0

Such was the disbelief in this at the time, Benetton actually handed over the full racecar telemetry to a couple of broadcasters (including the BBC) so they could verify this did indeed happen.

As a poster has said above - we were denied Senna vs Schumacher.

Surely would have been incredible rivalry.

My money is on Schumacher being victor though. Im British and we dont like Germans (apparently) and especially ones that knock our World Champs off the road.... but despite all that i think i hand Schumacher a 'Truly Great Driver' award for everything he achieved at his extremely long peak.
