Hello all,

I'm a windows 7 x64 user and proud eve player since 2007, few minutes ago was clearing pc from old files, making backups etc and discovered that under the cache folder there were smth like 20 "cachebackupxx" subfolders for a total of almost 2GB.... guess they have been created when u clear cache of client but it's idiot that it keeps doing it indefinitely.

I'm asking ccp to stop this by set a limit of space client can use for cache backups and once it's filled up it automatically delete the oldest 1.

while some housekeeping would be nice ... 2G is a lot these days?

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

The question is "why any program should keep using HDD space indefinitely to store garbage u will NEVER need again?"

At least offer a button to "delete old cache files"; if u know this thing and where cache are stored u can of course do it manually but lot of ppl have no idea about this and/or where it happens

It's just as silly as real waste, u throw it in the thrash bin (the "clear all cache files" button) in your home (your pc) but after a bit guess u have to empty it when it starts to stink, right?

Well, there is nothing telling u that are the months old eve client cache files flooding your HD when u find used space growing apparently for no reason.... good luck finding em in the houndres of folders. That's just a pretty stupid behavior, completely pointlless, nothing else.

To make u better understand how i see things let me tell that I've 1 HDD with 4 partitions:

C: windows 7 and drivers only (plus of course all crap automatically created by programs) 'bout 55GB, less than half used
D: programs and games (2x eve clients TQ+Sissi, browser, archieves manager, Video editing etc), about 75GB still less than half used
E: movies, dowloads and backup files, about 306GB usage on this can be from next to 0 to 100%
F: music only, about 60GB half used

Never had to defrag/clean drive F: even if i access is daily cause files there are pretty static
Never had to defrag/clean drive E: even if access is daily cause 98% of the files are big and i keep adding/removing em
Very rarely have to defrag/clean drive D: even if heavy daily access (since all programs are here)
Rarely have to defrag/clean drive C: to recover some speed 'cause i don't keep writing/deleting on it ******* up all clusters

Still do i need to reinstall OS 'causesmth still manage to **** it up? (never happend in last 3 years at least) Cool !!! :

- Drag eve client setting folder to usb key/other partition (ETA 10 sec, most programs have option allowing u to save settings in installation folder instead of user folder so don't even need to backup em)
- OS reinstallation + updates
- All programs reinstallation
- Drag back eve settings folder form usb key/other partition
- Ready to roll with everything as before. How long does it take? as said long time i don't do it but iirc smth like 4h more or less. With SSD for OS even less

I use this system since i was about 15 yo and i'm very confortable with it.

10GB more of crap on C: will barely fill it up to half, surely not a space problem, figure just 2GB.... but why should we have unuseful files on it slowing everything down?

If u have a lone drive of 2TB good, i've really nothing against it.

Just out of curiosity if u're using windows try to look under

C:\Users\username\local settings\CCP\EVE

there u find all settings/IGB bookmarks/cache of all client version u have installed (TQ-Singularity-Buckingham-Duality, if u ever access em)

Surely similar thing happens on others OS
