Been using Win7 since it came out. For the past few months, this windows 8 pro been sitting on my desk because I've been busy. Now with free time, I can reformat the PC I've been wanting to do.

But the question is, should I keep using Windows 7? Or switch to Windows 8? I really don't know. Maybe those with Windows 8 experience can give me their opinions? Would appreciate it. :)

Any of the software that you currently use that require Windows 8 or is it a feature Windows 8 that you cannot get through 3rd party software in Windows 7? If not, stick with Windows 7.

Stick with 7 imo. I stick to the every other windows upgrade philosophy.

I'd stick with Windows 7. Better user experience and less spyware. http://log.nadim.cc/?p=78

windows 8 is better at handling my processor

if you have a computer that works with WIndows 7, I think you should stay with 7. if it's a new computer, though, that's the time to try a new OS like WIndows 8..

plus it's wasteful to sink two OS serials on the same machine

Hm, that's right. What I have here is retail windows 8. Does it stick to specific PC like OEM from earlier windows versions? I'm actually out of track on that one.

The license is transferable on windows 8 if you bought the copy yourself, if its one that came with a pre-built computer your out of luck with a transfer.

I find metro useful

I use the windows key now, and to search a program I start typing and press enter.

gets me to "calc" a lot, without taking my fingers off the keyboard.

well the best thing about startisback is that you hit ctrl + winkey to jump into Metro, repeat to jump back into desktop,
which is great for keeping metro out for people who don't use it.

Win7: ctrl-esc, "calc", enter
You actually just have to type "ca" instead of "calc" and then you can just press enter on most machines.

Ctrl-Esc opens the task manager for me.
Pressing the Windows key, however, opens the start menu, into which I can just type the first couple of letters and get the calculator, or whatever else I'm looking for.

Don't know... that may be because of how I have my stuff set up - first thing I do on any fresh Win install is bring back the UI to "Win98SE" specs (in Win7, that would be classic start menu, classic theme, and a few other things - it takes a while).

Haha, gotta move on dude.

Talked with several people, most people opt out the "metro" and to the windows 7 style UI. Kinda defeats the purpose of having windows 8.

You might as well as ask Chocolate cookie or Herpes.
WIndows is currently in his BAD cycle.
Wait for the next window.
The next one will be good .

On a side note . Fancy seeing you here Neo.
Long time eh?

anything short of calc brings me to other programs.......

windows 7 doesn't know how to schedule my processors. can't say that enough. it just won't do

Processors?

You do understand the majority of the scheduling is done via UMS right ?
Windows 8 and 7 are both running similar algorithmsStraight

Read up if you wanna .

Why ? It's just bells, whistles and other pointless decorations.
Functionally, it's pretty much the same (or close enough for me), but visually, it's distracting and therefore disruptive.
So, really, why do I "got" to move on ?

Rain6639 wrote:

I am curious, what else do you have installed that pops up for just "cal" ?

Could you elaborate on that ?
What CPU are we talking about, on which precise windows version ? I know you said something in the past, but I forgot (I think it was some way-too-many-cores AMD on Win7Pro64, but I am not 100% sure).
And, you know, objectively, what are the actual symptoms ? That, I don't remember at all what you ever mentioned (if you did, I can't recall).
