I have to agree with you there, European drivers in general are pretty bad.

what you propose is gutsy

the best option you find might be a moped. I've never heard of motorcycle rentals. don't you think they would require a US driver's license

I'll ask around/look for you. i'm in LA

http://www.motoquest.com/motorcycle-rental/long-beach-california-5

they don't specify US driver's license, but they do want you to have roadside assistance coverage.

motorcycles are ... more than half the cost of a budget rental car (MSRP)... $115 a day... were you looking for a motorcycle, or something cheaper than a rental car? (if you thought motorcycles would be less expensive to rent, I think you might be mistaken)

Dunno motorcycles, but for car rentals in the US of A it is adviseable to bring a international driving license. They're quite easy to obtain if you already owe a valid EU driving license.

PS: I concur with Rain, if you're looking for a cheaper price, stay on 4 wheels. Both to rentals and insurers, motorbikes are accident machines and they're priced accordingly, specially the insurance, and you must either have one or buy one from the rental, on top of the rent itself.

and there's always public transportation or cabs if you're not here for too long (just throwing that out there)

Why ? Twisted

Its a american motorcycle trip with my father so we will be on 4 wheels but with 2 bikes Big smile
Motorcycle are expensive because if you dont know how to ride you are down with the bike :( (plus isn't automatic like most of your cars P)

I found http://www.eaglerider.com which sounds to be a little cheaper.

If you have some others informations or website let me know. Smile

Eaglerider? Certainly they can rent a motorbike to you, but consider adding one of their damage waiver plans (VIP/EVIP) to the rental price.

Driving in LA is a terrible proposition. Just driving through in a U-Haul on the way elsewhere, we were almost involved in 5 serious, I mean really stupid and bad, accidents.

Public transportation and taxis are your best bet, especially if not experienced there.

I never thought I'd see worse than Houston, TX traffic, but LA has it beat by a long shot.

Edit: although a motorcycle would be great on the smaller highways in Sonoma, Napa, and northern Cal in general.
