Guide to scan sites

Hi all.

So I'm getting pretty good at scanning down and the help I got on a previous post (https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&find=unread&t=219003) proved so awesome and helped immensely.

My next question about scanning is a simple one. Is there a website I can go to that allows me to look up the scan code e.g. ABC-123 that can tell me what that site is before I do a proper scan?

Yes I know it's an incredibly lazy approach to scanning and it won't take much time to scan everything down but it would be nice to forgo scanning down ABC-123 if it was an Angel Hideout when DEF-456 is a grav site which is only really what I'm trying to scan for in the first place.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

The site names are randomly generated except inside wormholes as far as i know. For wormhole names - http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Wormholes#Wormhole_Identification

Oh ok. I guess that makes sense considering they are randomly generated.

Back to scanning.

This is something else, the ABC-123 stuff is randomly generated in WHs aswell, the numbers you see in this link are the WH IDs, dont mix those up with the signature IDs.

As for the signature IDs those are kinda random, but they can tell you if a signature spawned after DT.

The last two letters of the 3 letter-block before the 3 digit number block should always be the same for all signatures thats were already there before DT.

Example: YXX-### if XX is the same for a couple of signatures those were already there before DT. After each DT the signature ID will change, however this pattern will stay the same.

That's pretty cool.

So the first letter doesn't represent anything?

I have found no deeper meaning in it, same goes for the number in the back (probably just to egnerate an unique id.

But then the signature strenght kinda tells you what your looking at.

This site here explains it rather well: http://swiftandbitter.com/eve/dsp/
