RP Opportunities

I am posting here as a newbie, as opposed to in an RP section because I dont see any RP-related OOC forums but can anyone give me an OOC feel for what the IC interaction is like in EVE?

I realize I will get trolled here, so have at it.. but this is a serious question. It seems that CCP goes through the trouble of making a fairly rich backstory for this game, and includes ongoing RP-oriented events and what not, even though the majority of players that I've come across want nothing to do with it.

Are there opportunities to plug in with RP groups as a newb? Are there RP channels other than The Summit?

Check out the Live Events sub-forum:

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=topics&f=4229

Then join the various events channels in the game. A fair number of players in these channels roleplay and they can lead you to the other roleplayers in the game. There is a very healthy and vibrant roleplaying community within EVE Online but it can be hard to find.

You could also consider contacting some of the people in Intergalactic Summit directly via an EVE mail and ask them.

All the RP’ers I’ve come across have been cool.

Every corp or fleet has it’s asshats who as the lowest common denominator set the tone for the group, but the asshats wont go anywhere near the RP’ers for fear of derision, so they just don’t have that problem.

In fact I never seem to notice the difference on comms other than that they just aren’t idiots, so you check the corp bio and sure enough – RP.

Of course I’m talking about the Matari fellas, who wouldn’t like you one bit for obvious reasons, so no point linking you to them.

But these fellas seem to be mostly RP: http://forum.coalitionofantipirates.com/
So you can start there if you can’t find any locally.

Feel free to direct me to them, though. I have only made contact with one person that appears to RP, and it has been through a few in-character eve mails regarding trades. I'd def be down for hooking into an RP group/groups.

And, of course, Matari RPers are the BEST RPers because Minmatar is the BEST race. :)

In FW check out these guys: http://www.defiant-legacy.com/

Bear in mind that any decent corp will assume you’re a spy for a while, so just get busy in FW and fleet up whenever you can.

Very established group who live next to my alt in Metro LS.

I plan on applying myself when I’m ready to settle down.

*I PUT ON MY ROBE AND WIZARD HAT.*

I have done some RP in the past, and it's not as daunting as it seems at first. Something that you should remember is that, so long as you don't reference out of game things, people, or happenings, you are basically already in character. Jargon, abbreviations, smack talk, cursing, scamming, etc... it's completely in character for an obnoxiously rich semi-immortal demigod, which is what a capsuleer is.

The only step between that and "RP" is to know more about Eve lore and to pick sides and be opinionated about them. Sometimes you can even act on it by joining a fighting force and shooting the other side. There isn't really much more to it.

Some resources:

I'm sure there's more, and others can help there.

Never felt the desire to RP myself.
Don't know many hardcore RP capsuleers, I do know some that are Semi RP.

But in the end, I don't care if people do it, so I won't troll it. It's their choice, I don't see the fun in it, but that's me and not the other players.

I have fought these guys in the past in Drone Null...

Thats an interesting point actually.
Just by subscribing, you are effectively an RPer to whatever extent you are comfortable with.
I'm sure your rank and file Goon or Testie would refute that, but then that would only prove the pointBlink

Thats my problem though, I dont really want to join another corp. I enjoy my current playstyle and enjoy my (very) small corp. I would like to interact with other RP players though. That COAP group you posted sounds interesting. As much as the one-universe philosophy is nice, it would be easier if everyone in a certain area were either RPers or not RPers.

Its been a while since i have talked to them, but if i remember correctly Electus Matari (alliance) allows people to hang around in channels they have specifically for RP.

Please note i cant be 100% sure about this since, as mentioned, its been a while.

There's an unofficial OOC forum setup by some of the RPers who run 'The Summit' channel. There's also an 'OOC' channel setup by the same folks as a companion to 'The Summit'. There's a variety of other channels out there too, but you're probably best off asking in either that forum or the OOC channel for lists.

I'm a fan of role playing myself, to me it's one way to keep a game interesting and to interact with others in a meaningful manner adding to one's persona. Thing is that, unlike many others RPers who tend to be... quite verbal, I tend to role play by being in character and acting as my persona would.

In this game my character feels rather detached; partly because we manifest ourselves through space ships, partly because I have difficulty making any sort of connection with EVE's background and storyline and ofcourse because I lack any sort of knowledge on this game's history. I find the "Me Gallente, you Caldari; shoot all blasters!" way too basic and "hollow" and I have difficulty coming up with an interesting angle. Perhaps it just needs time but coming from other MMO's it's not easy to make the transition from being & acting your character to indirectly flying ships as it is in EVE.
