Why make auto-pilot so slow?

What is the point of making auto pilot so slow?

It is already quite dangerous as the user isn't paying close attention.
Speeding it up would help alleviate the tedium of traveling distances - and reduce a pointless frustration for players.
At the same time, it wouldn't have a serious impact on the safety of traveling either.

Risks vs convenience.

If a pilot wants to AFK travel, there's risks for doing so.

Not sure what you are doing, but i can set and activate my AP in about a second.

It don't get much faster than that.

To increase the likelihood of your death. You chose to go AFK so that is the cost.

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!

If it makes you feel any better there used to be no warp to zero on gates at all unless you created a bookmark on the opposite side of the gate for every single gate you fly to.

So in a way .. it's not that using autopilot is slower, it's that manual piloting got a speed buff !

Why make autopilot at all? It's bad enough that you can move so many m3's in a freighter, but that you don't even have to be at the computer is even worse. The only thing that would make it harder for people trying to interdict you would be if your freighter just teleported to where it wanted to go without having to travel the intervening space at all.

Some of us would prefer that CCP took the nerf bat and beat autopilot to within an inch of its life.

How do we know it's a high-sec poster? I mean I really don't hear them complaining about this issue. They'd more complain about the gatecamps at chokepoints just trying to play the game, though.

<-- Republic Military School -- doesn't mean the player is actually a high-sec poster, let alone someone who started today.

There you go again Andski, just whinging about hi-sec for the sake of it.

Had you bothered to check, you would have noticed that the OP is a new player and probably knows little about the space mechanics in Eve and why they are the way they are.

Because autopilot is generally seen as excessively risky in nullsec/lowsec?

Auto-pilot isn't slow. You travel just as fast.

If you are asking why you are dropped 15 km from a gate, then CCP have answered that as being to allow ships time to recover capacitor. CCP later also claimed that auto-pilot isn't supposed to be as efficient.

Nothing wrong with AP at all. One of the better changes that the game has made.

Spaceships without autopilot...hahahaha..no thanks.

And what the hell is wrong with Freighters? I mean, they are freighters. They have one role and they do that role well...whats you issue with them?

This is EVE, developed by CCP.

CCP believes that anyone that wishes to play their game should be punished by being made to sit at their desk performing the same repetitive set of mouse clicks time after time after time.

I jest, of course. I suspect the real reason is that making proper UI and dynamic, interactive in-space things is hard. Manual jumping is one of those particularly annoying ones in that there is an enforced period of time between actions (click click wait for warp... click click wait for warp) that makes a significant number of people reach for the "Automate this. I have better things to do with my day" button.
