No one mentioned Verone yet?

Also, Omber Zombie, Jade Constantine, TornSoul, Serenity Steele...

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

I am. Everyone who has ever read something I have posted, or said, knows my name after doing so. Thus, there is not a single person in EVE, who you can ask if they have never heard my name before, who will be able to answer truthfully, that they have not.

Does it make me old that I'm surprised at the people who are considered old news?

Also, I would submit Villard Wheel just for the number of times I linked his profile in noob help.

We have lost more epic personalities in EVE than most can recollect.

I would like a little honorary mention of Ragnar from TTI, (and Tzadkiel from NAGA).

Back before Industry was serious Business TTI was raining down fire to get CCP to improve these things.

Worthy mention(s), Caleb. Having been a member of TTI during beta and very early after launch, I recall first-hand the influence Ragnar and TTI had on the development of business, industry and other aspects of the game. That experience helped fuel my own interest in and pursuit of industrial aspects of the game.

The only person that I am familiar (in that I have heard of them) with in game is Chribba, I have heard of the mittani through the blog but not really in game. But reading this there are obviously a few others that have risen to that level.

I don’t mind saying that I am a fair bit (ok then a lot) in awe with these people who have such immense knowledge of this game and have acquired isk (I am guessing this is all for isk) to levels beyond my comprehension.

I wonder if this is knowledge that they have developed in game or that they deal with these areas in real life too and are just implementing the same strategies here. I've been in game a couple of years and most f it goes over my head.

It's very little to do with ISK, any chimp can program a bot or macro and obtain billions paticularly if said bot has been running since eve beta. Older players have also obtained trillions simply by being in the game longer and back when ISK was much easier to come by. IE CCP giving out T2 BPO's in the lottery or when CCP devs were simply giving market advise out via comms to their friends, this still happens a lot but CCP has an official policy against it now.

Mittens, Chibra, Kugu and others are famous because they have influenced the game they have built community projects that involved players and motivated them to do things, they are famous because of this not because of ISK.

Actually isk was much harder to make when us old timers started. Back then we worked our butts off for a month straight to get into a battleship. Today that can take minutes. Remember when the largest belt rat was a cruiser?Shocked

Mintchip, for being the object of relentless obsession of 8000 rude neckbeards, who think that it's ok to say bad things about other people when you're anonymous.

MACTEP because he is the face of the Russian Eve for most of us. And look at the smoke coming from the Southeastern side of the map. Vince Draken for that matter, too. And DBRB for ~Asakai~.

Progodlegend for inventing every fleet composition, tactics, and strategy of the past, today, and the future.

Riverini for EN24, and also for not quitting to thousand haters' frustration, rage, and continuing insults.

And PIZZA for being so hilarious.

Edit: Darknesss for serving as the trusted third party for about thousand supercapitals.

Edit: Backdoor Bandit for being the most linked char in Eve history.

I remember working for 3 months to get my first BS (Mission Raven), only to lose it about 5 missions later, with no insurance.
A friend of mine *gave* me another Raven, but a week later he *borrowed* it back. He lost it that same night in another mission :(

Hard times indeed.

Oh we might give a special tip of the bowlers to everadio DJs.. Some of them have been around FOR AGES.. bringing us rather special EVE memes.. like Rosa Helicopter..

DJ Funky bacon, mrBlades among those I recall being VERY active..

The fact that EVE-R is still going strong just shows that sometimes taking a chance with something metagame like that actually brings a decade of great happy clients and awesome metagamers (instigators)...

I know this might sound unbelievable but the reverse of the bolded sentence happened as well.
I started EvE without knowing a single ounce about markets and economy, banks, bonds...
Then I learned enough of that and applied that learning to RL and became a RL trader and now I deal with RL markets, economy, banks, bonds... P

The guy who came up with the saying 'Don't fly what you can't afford to lose.'

It is one of the most used phrases in eve and still rock solid advice.

Not to mention that at release there was no battleships in game... Took a month or two before we got those.

ISK has never been easier to make than it is today.

Back then, the pinnacle of mining was using an Imicus.... (no kidding)

That was not the worst part.. When BS came in that was when the greedy industrialists really committed an atrocity.. They all started to put mining lasers in all the high slots and chain mine belts at a rate that was crazy. Proper soldiers must have found this extremely offensive, its basically like grow flowers in a helmet. Blink or Plowing with a broadsword..

Once we had our first 5 BS we ate belts and sold so much mineral that corp paid for all members to get in Battleships skills and all. It was the first few pilots that was the problem, after that it was smooth sailing.

Who do you think are the most famous and recognisable toons in New Eden

Off the top of my head...

Chribba
Garmon
Shadoo
The Mittani
Kill2

Of those I'd expect Chribba to be on pretty much everyone's list. Garmon for his videos, for his trolls and for his alliance tournament victories. Shadoo for alliance tournament commentary, legendary rage and for being so prominent in EVE politics. The Mittani for many things but primarily for the Mittani Dot Com. Kill2 for his videos, for his alliance tournament commentary and for his community activism.

Your reputation precedes you... so love, fear and respect. Each can be a pro or a con depending on the situation.

Still not convinced this is market discussions material though.

True, Your reputation precedes you but in this case the OP have nothing to worry about....

Or does he?
