I keep D/C every now and then randomly with 'Socket Error' coming up and asking me to restart EvE. Can anyone tell me if this is a in game issue or a internet issue please as my internet doesn't seem to D/C

Thanks Mags

Like you I suffered with "socket Closed" error for over a year and half. First it only let me have one account active, if I started up a second they usually shut down within a few minuts. Then after a new EVE expansion, I think it was the one two summers ago, running even a single account become impossible. So I left the game for over a half year. When winter expansion arrived I returned but the problem was still there.

Desperat I was looking for any clues to the problem, and I found a old closed thread, where some folks who had the same promlem said that they used a IP-service to hide their precense on the net. So I tested a free one that pestered me every second hour by open firefox and spam it with nonsense. But the diffrence it made it was working!

Before I crashed withing a few minutes, now I could play for hours with no socket closed happening. I don't know why hiding my precense on the net worked, I live in Scandinavia, and this one made the server think I lived in USA. Some players who are Internet savy could probably explain it all.

But anyway, I later discovered the real culprit to my socket closed errors was my Internet Provider. They had throttled the speed because I was on a old contract with them. When I ordered a new modem to use with my newly bought Xbox, their techguy told me I was paying more for less! So he fiexd that, I got a faster Internet and paid less, and suddenly I no longer had any socket closed errors. I can now run two clients with no problem.

So check it out with your provider, chance is they are not giving you what you pay for, or you need to get a new and better one. I hope this helps.

And these forum sucks as well. Good thing I copypasted imy post first or it would be gone.

If there is any old 'copper wire' involved at all anywhere along your connection path, Closed Sockets are going to be the most faithful friend ever.

Yeh, I only have access to shared wifi connection on DSL so unless I want to move (which I don't) Socket Errors are on the menu for me.Sad

This may be far too simple an answer.... but I get the repeated socket-error problem every so often, and I simply reboot my computer and my DSL modem and it clears it every time.

Note - just restarting the game has never helped. Key seemed to be total reboot of comp/modem.

Yah - am sure that won't work for everyone - just throwing it out there.

Once again the socket was not closed, it just had a safety cap put on it so you dont hurt yourself. Push down, then twist.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?
