Is MAAR + RAH + 800mm plate the best kind of active armor tanking?

Yes, dual rep+RAH keeps more versatility and handles easier, and in the case of limited damage types it has comparable tank, probably even better against monotype damage. Downside is that single cap booster makes you vulnerable to heavy neuts.

Active armor is not exactly balanced yet, neuts are a hard counter, and the Myrm crumbles fast under typical damage. I've had more losses than success flying it after 1.1, not quite ready to give up on it (again) a bit pessimistic.

Thanks for a proper answer! I chose the 800mm plate to increase buffer but also be able to sport more gun dps, and not having to fit two cap boosters. This will mostly be used in 1v1 situations where over 1000 dps tank will hardly be necessary

Bolded and underlined the part that is at the source of the whole problem. That type of situation is so limited.

Which is why active armor tanking and creating ship bonuses around it, and giving all the ships of a certain race in a certain ship class this same shithole bonus, was such a bad idea. Please reevaluate this fail **** balancing team. Evil

edit - and not enough recitation of the word **** in this post. **** **** **** MAAR **** **** MYRM and BRUTIX **** **** ****. Oh and one more thing, ****.P

edit 2 - lol some of that **** got through the **** screen. not sure how but it sure is funny

CCP, there are off buttons for ship explosions, missile effects, turret effects, etc. "Immersion" does not seem to be harmed by those. So, please give us a persisting off button for the jump gate and autoscan visuals.

Lol how can you be even remotely confident you will ever be in a 1v1? The occurrence of 1v1's is so seldom it may as well not exist. If you're solo roaming low sec in this myrm you need to expect 1v6+ odds.

He can probably be confident of being in a 1v1 situation if he is specifically looking for them and asking around, or using 'duelling'.

The thing to remember about rah's is that their resist profile is not proportional to the amount of incoming damage. They are very good against single damage ships like missile and drone boats. Generally, a eanm serves you better.

In a Myrmidon, you have 14844 EHP in structure. That gives quite some time

waiting until you're in structure on a single rep myrm is an incredibly bad idea.

Doing this with any ship is a incredibly bad idea

To get the most HP it would be far better to use a 1600mm II plate on that myrmidon, a MAAR, RAH, two EANM IIs, and a damage control II. A small tech 2 cap booster and navy cap booster 400s is enough to sustain it. Start the repairer a little before hitting armor. Keep the MAAR overloaded while it has paste. After it runs out you can keep running it until you die or the enemy dies.

The downside of that setup is the high mass and low MWD speed. A plated battleship may have better MWD speed and the same align time.
