hey, i am settling into lowsec right now. i like to scan but im worried peple will see me and kill me so i am currently training to get a cloaking device.

My question is, is there a way to uncloak a cloaked ship? Also what other strategies could i use to avoid being killed? (and no im not leaving low sec)

thankyou,

The only way for someone to uncloak a cloaked ship is to physically ram it. You have to put an object within 2 KM of the cloaked ship.

It takes very little to fit a prototype cloak. Just make sure you're not sitting somewhere where people can bump into you, lauch probes, cloak. Scan as much as you want.

In the mean time, you could make a mid-warp bookmark between two planets and warp to that. Align to another safe spot and start scanning. You will have to check directional scan at least every 5 seconds, and warp out if you see combat probes around.

The problem will, of course, come with trying to claim your prize once you have scanned down what you are looking for. Sooner or later you will have to fight for it. Or someone will be already sitting there cloaked, waiting for you to find it and walk into their trap.

Fitting a cloak will also gimp your combat capabilities to a certain extent.
If you are planning to live in lowsec my suggestion would be to ditch the cloak, use a safespot for scanning and keep a close eye on D-Scan.
Alternatively you could use a scanning frigate to help quickly locate sites before changing ship.

so what happens with combat probes? could the other scanner jump straight to my location and get a lock on me?

Welcome to the world of afk cloaking. May your days of annoying locals everywhere be fun and profitable. Remember if you are at your keyboard you are doing it wrong.

Combat probes will lock on to your ship and allow another player to warp directly to you at whatever range they please (if you are not cloaked). A competent player will be in warp to you already within 10 seconds of the combat probes entering your directional scan range. This is why you scan no less than every 5 seconds. This is why you don't "wait and see" when you see the probes, just warp. It's also why you stay aligned to something you can warp to and move at no less than 75% max speed at all times.

Combat probes operate the same as core but they also detect ships as you thought.
As with core probes you can see them on your D-Scan if they come within 14.3au.

As someone said above, while you scan stay aligned to another bookmark so that you may warp instantly if you suspect trouble is nearby. As you scan keep checking D-Scan to see if any potential combat probes are trying to seek you out

if you are cloaked, no one can find you with any probes.

Can't scan while cloaked.

While probing in a frigate just have an MWD fit and full align somewhere with it on. Even if someone probes you out, it doesn't matter. You will be out of point range by the time they land.
Ofcourse, still keep an eye on Dscan like the other said. Make sure probes are shown on your scan.

Use your map. You can check statistics to find quiet versus loud systems. Just remember when you are in a system for more than 15 min, you are now on the map.

After that, have lots of safe spots, bounce around in them. Learn the d scan and have multiple overview tabs so you can customize your awareness.

Not sure if you are talking about Dscan or probes, but you can definitely use probes that were launched before you actived your cloak. You just can't launch probes once you cloak up.

You can also use d-scan while cloaked...do it all the time when loading grid in a new system.

I've this memory in the back of my mind where I tried that once and lost connection to my probes. I guess something else must have caused it.

Obviously, but you won't question what you think you know unless someone or something gives you reason to do so.

Make a couple of safe spots first. Align from one safe spot to the other, uncloak, drop probes, hit mwd, recloak and then just scan away to your little hearts content (or your probes run out of time to be in space if you are really slow).

Cloaked ships are no longer decloaked by other cloaked ships.
Drones don't decloak ships, but prevent them from cloaking.

Cloak +MJD doesn't work :(

drones can decloack ships (i decloacked one 3 days ago while returning my drones after hunting a cloacked cruiser, it decloacked 7 km away from me, when the drones returned home).

however, nothing can decloack ships on gate (no the same cloack), but once it has been decloacked, anything within 2km of it will prevent him to cloack (even frozen corpse)

also, being locked will prevent you to cloack

Warp to a planet at range. Make a bookmark while in warp. Warp to this bookmark. Warp to another planet, make another bookmark. Warp between your bookmarks, and delete them, only keep the ones that are not in line with planets. Repeat until you are confident no one will accidently bump into you. Start moving to somewhere, DO NOT TURN ON MWD, keep launching probes. Quickly move them away from you (solar system map), CLOAK. Now you can actually move your probes into position to start scanning. Anything close to you will unclaok you, roids wrecks players gates etc
