I've got another incredible chi tale. I had been a volunteer on an island in the western Pacific for a couple of years. I learned the language, which is unique to that island group and only spoken by about 8,000 people in the world. (It's roots are Malay-Indonesian, with some Papua New Guinean influence, and then made more unique by hundreds of years of idiomizing and evolving in local isolation). A friend who had also been a volunteer in those islands was visiting my town. We were on a city bus, and a couple of nice looking ladies got on and had to squeeze kind of near us. We're riding along, and after a while my friend says to me "Fel e chigiyen." Which means "Her rear is nice" in the island language. The lady immediately turned around and gave us a dirty look, like "Back off, you pervs!"

How did she know what my friend meant by "fel e chigiyen"? It's a mystery. The odds are close to zero that she understood the words themselves. The only explanation I have is chi awareness. We had been focusing our chi energy on her rear, and as soon as we said something about it, she knew what we were talking about.
(By the way, this rear-ogling incident happened many years ago. Some guys who are young, single and stupid do that kind of thing....)

That's not chi. It's called being a female. Very likely she noticed you were staring at her (women DO watch this kind of stuff) and so she understood the tone and intent, if not the words.

Not from my aromatherapy thing. I agree it is taken to a quack level.....mainly for commercial money making purposes I think.

Also, there is indeed something about accupuncture that works most indeed. We just don't really know why. But whatever it is, it's not mystic.

That makes sense I suppose. Still, that was awfully perceptive of her. We weren't really staring or facing her, and she had her back to us, and one guy just said it to the other guy. Very good perception-- maybe Extra Sensory Perception. Smile

You'll note that I've been very careful to qualify? That's the difference from 'there's something there' and 'quackery.' Making claims you can't substantiate is quackery. Substantiated claims are not. And labeling a subjective experience as 'subjective' is neither making a claim on science, nor is it quackery. It's an anecdote (which, of course =! data).

The problem with quackery (or bollocks) is when someone makes sweeping claims from scant evidence. Scant evidence can (sometimes) support narrow claims, but not much else.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

I believe that Qi (Chi) is real, though. From doing martial arts, and also from hunting and being around wildlife. Example of chi: How is it that you notice that somebody behind you is looking at you? The person can be completely silent, but you feel the presence clearly and you look back.

I used to take smoke breaks on an external fire escape in Manhattan. It was 9 floors up and kind of hidden in the shade between two buildings. If I stared intently at people walking by below, they'd look up toward me. They could be walking head-down and daydreaming, or on a cell phone, just shuffling along in their own world. But they'd suddenly look up and to the side at my spot 100 ft. away and 9 stories up. My explanation is chi awareness. Any other theories on that?
