Command Ships

With the current changes coming up in the Summer expansion and the possible changes to off and on grid boosting, I would like to propose a possible ship/role to the command ship hierarchy.

In the current command ship hierarchy, we have Fleet Command ships and Field Command ships.

Fleet Command ships can fit up to 3 fleet booster modules but are not as battle friendly as Field command ships. Field command ships seem to be more offensive command ships but can fit only 1 booster module.

I would like to propose the possibility of a Logistics Command Ship, something on the lines of a basilisk or scimi, but also has the capabilities to fit Fleet Boosting modules as well as shield/armour transfers. Field Command ships currently need logistics skills to fly them, and if the command ship skill requirements are changed as proposed, the logistics skills will no longer be needed.

To a lot of people, this will possibly be then a useless and unused skill. If there was a Logistics Command Ship, then this could be a requirement skill to fly one of these ships. It would also promote the use of on grid boosting if and when off grid boosting is removed or changed.

It has been stated in a previous dev blog that the fleet and field designation will be going away and all command ships will be able to use links and with stand combat equally well

This ^^
Also each race will get 2 different weapon platforms for the command ships.
Amarr Lasers and Missiles
Caldari Missiles and Hybrids
Gallente Hybrids and Drones
Minmatar Projectiles and Missiles

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

And the skill, "Command Ships", will also require the following skills:

Armoured Warfare 5
Information Warfare 5
Siege Warfare 5
Skirmish Warfare 5
Warfare Link Specialist 4

Also, each Command ship will have a 3% bonus, per level, towards not 1 but 2 types of links:

Amarr: Armour + Skirmish
Caldari: Information + Siege
Gallente: Armour + Information
Minmatar: Siege + Skirmish

This does mean that OGB ships will be able to fit command link modules and boost with 6 links for full benefit.

Almost correct. You can still only have one mindlink, but I'll take any extra bonus on non-mindlinked bonuses as well gladly :)

I had forgot about mindlinks. I just hope combined-mindlinks arent on the horizon.

The skill trainning is changing for almost all ships, please refer to the following link to the command ship changes, you will see there is no reason to make the field command ships logistics.

If one wishes to read into things CCP might be removing mind links when the remove OGB.

I do hope mindlinks go away, always seemed odd to me that you not only need to train for 6 months and buy a 300m+ isk ship which wont get you on any killmails but also obtain a 175m implant every time you die/clone jump.

Even if T2 warfare links cost like 50m each I would still be happier than the way it is now

Don't forget the poor miners who get ganked with a 1.4b isk mindlink in...

i was about to start a new thread to ask about the mind links. of course, i have the mining link, 2 armor links, a shield, and a skirmish. if they go away, thatll suck! thats a LOT of wasted mula.
only reason i trained implant 5 was for the links.

why dont they just make the mind link mimick the racial bonuses? if i want to fly amarr ships, i can buy an amarr implant and itll boost skirmish and amarr. easy fix.

i havent seen anything about mind links going away, anyone have a link for that?

I believe it was mentioned in the winter CSM minutes but I cannot access the PDF any more for confirmation.

Mindlinks are not specifically mentioned in any part of the notes. I downoaded a copy and I have ran a search for both "Mindlink" and "Mind Link" which has turned up nada.

So about mindlinks..

  • The fact that they are such a huge portion of the effectiveness of a booster isn't something we like
  • The fact that people are forced to use multiple jump clones or pop a new expensive implant every time they want to switch link types isn't something we like
  • The fact that they make the use of multiple gang link types at once so much worse isn't something we like
  • The exact way to deal with these problems isn't something we have hammered out yet, but we'll keep you updated

And since questions keep coming up I'll clarify some skill stuff again:

Assuming you have the (insert race here) Cruiser skill to 3, the level of (insert race here) Battlecruiser you get after the change will be the same as your Battlecruiser level before the change, not your Cruiser level.

And we don't have a date to give you on the skill changes but here's what I can say:
  • It won't happen in Retribution
  • It won't happen until we release the BC and BS changes
  • We can't commit to exactly when those changes will release yet
  • But I have an internal estimate about when we'll get it done, and that estimate makes me smug out
  • So if you're choosing between training those skills either sooner or later, choose sooner

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

thank u. thats some direction atleast...
i agree about what he wrote about buying the clones for the implants tho...
