Quad Light Beam Laser

Is there any reason to use these weapons? The stats on them look pretty terrible, particularly the optimal and falloff, and the only "redeeming" feature of this weapon is the low fitting requirements. Considering that most boats are designed around gank it seems like these weapons are terrible on all levels.

Or am I missing something?

Well, it IS one of the coolest looking turrets in the game. You could always fit some to your Sacrilege and pretend you're the Incarna loading screen.

They would work better as a pulse laser variant. We have a Gatling Pulse Laser (small) after all. So this supposed "Quad Light Pulse Laser" would then offer a decent close range weapon for tight fittings on amarr cruisers/battlecruisers, compareable to the Medium Electron Blaster, maybe slightly more range and less dps.

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what this weapons niche is. Or, more specifically, what this weapons niche is that wouldn't make the ship it's fit on terrible

I was thinking maybe a MWD cruiser where you could get up close and had to worry about fitting and capacitor consumption, but I'm not sure if you would be able to orbit within optimal. Really just stretching to find some use for it, because I would like to fit the quad lasers because they look neat.

This weapon is exactly like dual 150mm railguns : low fiting weapon. The problem is that people prefer to use autocanon in the cases these weapon could be used.

Fun fact : quad light beam laser w/ navy ammo have more tracking than 425mm AC w/ barrage, and more dps beyond ~2km.

Dual 150mm Railguns though become interesting only after 9km, and their tracking suck.

No reason to use them whatsoever, even if you're tight on fitting you still can just use focused pulses instead, getting far better performance and ability to use scorch ammo. And 1km falloff is a joke in itself.

Even before the turret model updates, this gun looked cool.
Now it just looks badass as hell.

It's an extreme tank gun, you want to fit a 1600 plate but don't want to lose too much dps fit these

Quad lights with gleam do almost dentical dps and tracking to FMP with Navy MF

Range is a lot less but then you can oversize your tank easier.... vOv

AND the best thing is if you fit some rof enhancing rigs/implants it almost fires a continuous beam!!! looks' f'ing awesome!!!!!!!

That is the Way, the Tao.

Balance is everything.

they look cool but are absolutely horrid, If they had a much much much better falloff they would be useful

I did find one use case for the quad light beam laser tonight. It's the only medium laser that can fit on a bestower without energy grid mods. You can even fit the tech II if you have advanced weapon upgrades.

Yeah, and for long range you get to rock aurora. With, if I remember correctly, a shorter range than FMP with scorch.

OP:

The only use for quad light beams is a light show.

Get a navy omen, fit a tech 2 rof rig, 4-5 heat sinks, a rof implant, overload.

Fire away.

Pretty sure no weapon system in the game fires faster.

If there were a ship a bit bigger than a destroyer but with a slot layout somewhere beween a frigate and a cruiser, that ship would do well with quad light beam lasers. Any launcher hardpoints could be fit with rapid light missile launchers.

Between-Punisher-And-Omen-Ship-Thingie:
5 high slots
4 turret hardpoints
2 mid slots
5 low slots

220 tf CPU
320 MW powergrid

20m3 drone bay // 20mbits/sec bandwitdh
195m3 cargohold

645Gj capacitor
525 shields
750 armor
675 structure

40km targeting range, 5 max targets
385mm scan resolution, 12 radar sensor strength

54m signature radius
265m/s max velocity
4.5 au/s warp velocity

4,340,000kg
0.96 agility

I got carried away there.

On a Navy Omen with Quad Lights and a couple of heatsinks your dps is actually higher than your alpha.
The gun cycle rate is like 0.9s or something, which looks fething amazing but isn't very useful!

I would probably only really fit them on the tank ship of an Amarr tank 'n gank pair, or on a bait ship. They do reasonable dps up close without eating massive amounts of cap and allow a really heavy tank to be fitted.

It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.
