NPC Ambushes, Officers and you!

Greetings!

For as long as I played eve, the pirate factions in EVE has always been a little... lacking in there supposed infamy. You hear stories and news of dangerous attacks by ruthless killers working for the Sansha or The Guristas or the raiders, yet you never see it or ever Experience it. My idea below visits those problems.

What i propose is a Randomly organized NPC Ambush by whatever faction of pirate region you happen to be in. They happen in all security sectors of Space, including high, low and null sec. Depending on The security status of the system, will gauge how heavy the force is.

So For example, in high sec in the lonetrek region, you are minding your own business when BAM! A group of Guristas frigates with a few cruisers appear on overview and start engaging you! You can either attempt to run, or call for help in local. The choice is yours.

In low sec, You're hoping from gate to gate, belt to belt, then SKADOOSH! A group of Elite cruisers with Scrambling frigates and a few battleships appear on your overview and start beating the **** out of you. Call for help or try to run.

Now in nullsec, its a special case. Officer equipment is extremely rare to come by in EVE and I have no thoughts of changing that.

Imagine your in null minding your own business, next thing you know a squadron of battleships, elite cruisers and scrambling frigates appear on overview. and In charge of them is a officer rat.

Heres the kicker. If you can survive long enough to call in help, your the owner of a officer kill. If you die, they despawn. If you happen to escape, they despawn. Whats the point of staying at the location of a failed ambush?

The rate at which these happens would be semi-rare to rare. Especially the officer spawns.

Now to add a little bit of interest into this, let the chance of you getting ambushed increase or decrease based on your standings with the local pirates. If you have great standings, Then they leave you alone and on your way. If You have the worst standings, well, they will come after you harder and more often. Another idea would be a random chance of them to offer a ransom. Pay the money, they let you go. Perhaps the contraband system that is currently used in highsec can be incorporated into this system?

Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated. Pirate

Also, the less a gate is frequented, the higher the chance of ambush should be. You don't try to rob people on the motorway at peak hour (when most of the travellers are bloodthirsty over equiped immortal capsuleers :D).

Would bring a bit of life to these factions. I like the idea :) Also, the less a gate is frequented, the higher the chance of ambush should be. You don't try to rob people on the motorway at peak hour (when most of the travellers are bloodthirsty over equiped immortal capsuleers :D).

This idea will probably get bashed to oblivion for a myriad valid and non-valid reasons... having said that I kinda like it.

Now if only trigger and spawn randomization was extended to anomalies, mission and DED complexes... along with a general AI overhaul. Maybe I'm getting to far ahead of myself here.

I really like the idea :)
Random encounters would bring some life into said factions and could be interesting diversion from our otherwise "boring" EVE lifes. I would only oppose such ambushes in high sec. It wouldn't make much sense to me, and more importantly to the outlaws of those factions to bring their shiny ships to the space with high CONCORD presence in sake of ambushing some small freighter. Other than that I totally support the idea.

Free Officer spawn is too much. All you had to do deep within the rear end of blue space where you don't see hostiles for weeks on end, is call a few ppl over and farm the juicy officer loot.

Make it so that if officer isn't killed first, it warps. If anyone else lands on grid, it warps.

Sounds fine, but make it warp unless scrammed. Scramming ship gets primaried by every rat in the squad and summons additional rats after a short delay.

Dont make it officer spawns ffs. Make it a faction spawn or whatever. Officers are rare and should stay rare.

agreed, also, in a matter of balance, make rat able to be scrammed.

i saw a true sansha escape my dictor infini point yesterday (was making tests to actually see if it was effective to scram them or not, well it is not!)

so basically get to -10 with a pirate faction and then i get officer loot?

or at least an faction drop? cause ratting out in deep blue null with a carrier isnt already lucrative enough?

Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

Make it a 100 or so supercaps, plus support ships. Have them devastate everything... take down POS....then it would be interesting. Blink

i'm sure freighter pilots would love this......

that said it is a nice idea, it would be great to see interactions with pirates being a little more dynamic. Incursions was a good step towards that.

I think for the time being i'd be happy just to see something along the lines of all the races doing incursions that were smaller/shorter and less predictable etc. and if they could essentially shut down the system it would make life a bit more interesting. Right now all incursions mean is you go somewhere else to make isk.

Personally, I don't understand why NPCs (Sleepers in particular) let people anchor POSes in their space uncontested. For hardened badasses, they sure roll over quickly.

fly with escorts again ... just like the "old days".

+1, OP's idea is pretty solid.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Officer Rat spawn was a bit of a stretch, but I wasn't suggesting An Officer Would spawn Every time there was an Ambush.

The chance of being ambushed Is rare. The Chance of Being ambushed with an offer and his entourage would be even rarer.

Perhaps a New type of NPC Rat could be introduced, A Fleet commander or anything else like that. Much like the overseer used in Anomalies and Cosmic Signatures.

I swear ambushes already happen. Sometimes if i'm ratting in a belt, one of the little ***** warps off, and comes back a little later with 3 or 4 buddies.

That's a Templar, an Amarr fighter used by carriers.

Let's make NPC null what it should be: i've always wondered, why would Guristas let me anchor a POS in their space, and take precious moon goo away from them?
NPCs should defend their space as any player nullsec empire does.
+1 for more NPC interaction.

I really hate it especially when the rats are almost dead, then just i lose lock. They spend about 1 minute in the belt trying to align to warp, when i could of killed them 5 times over in that time.
