Bringing to your attention yet another PR disaster in the making.

In yonder thread, players are seeking supoport to get "k.com" rehabilitated, a thriving EVE community website whose very name has long been filtered by the profanity filter of these forums due to some past differences.

CCP sreegs, a former notorious Goon and CSM member and now CCP security staff, responded and shows very bad judgment in his choice of words and implications.

While I guess it is fully within CCP's competence and maybe even in their corporate interest (I doubt it) to keep k.com on their blacklist, sreegs' is no way to communicate with your community/customers. This goes totally against the recent charm offensive by Hilmar and pals and undoes with a couple thoughtless postings weeks of hard and dedicated professional work by both the old and the new community teams.

What a shame.

Get a life, his response is perfectly suitable for those whiny posters.

Nope. You'd make a PR disaster out of a copy paste response, too.

Your sense of proportion is putting tabloids to shame.

Yeah, forum ate my post again.
Bascially to interate

Copy pasting stuff from a manual or script on how to respond to something isnt really grounds for a public relations disaster at least online, true youll **** a couple people off but the guy website in question could have seriously avoided all of this getting his website banned rather easily by making a new one.

A PR disaster would be telling players they're no longer valued in any shape or form. In this case its ccp trying to protect players.

you might want to read up on your eve history.

the "disaster" is that Sreegs tries to disperse the notion that kugu was filtered as a retaliation for his role in creating a lot of negative publictity for CCP by claiming that all sites encouraging EULA violations that are brought to his notice get filtered when this has obviously not been true (some, like EN24, have even been advertised by CCP).

Also in the past the filter has been explained by kugutsumen being a bad word in some language (which CCP discovered just when they banned the player, lol), not by EULA violations or malware spreading.

My impression is that Sreegs pulled this policy out of his hat to provide a "solid" reason for kugu staying filtered, when in reality this policy has never been enforced so far (I tried all EULA violating sites I could come up with, see the other thread) and has not been responsible for kugu getting on the word filter some 4.5 years ago in the first place.

CCP still mad.

Using the malware excuse is laughable.

I was wondering how long it would take before people would start referring to everything they disagree with as a newsletter-grade catastrophe.

seeing how RL media refers to anything and everything as "-gate" this was a fairly safe prediction/expectation Blink

Don't even know that website, or even care about it. Managed years without it, I'm sure I could manage more.

What's your interest in it anyway, is he a mate of yours?

Any response from CCP is more than the forum spammers from that site deserve. Lock all the threads, keep the other site's popularity up by continuing to censor its name.

There is no PR fail here, beyond that manufactured by the fans of the naughty site who wish it to become mainstream so they can tell people "oh, I was posting here before it became cool." Once the hipsters have moved in, you know the place is dead.

Get a grip, he got a life time ban for cheating, revoking the ban would send the completely wrong message and be the PR disaster.

Its not about him getting unbanned. Its about a Eve-Online based fan site being censored on the forums.

Given the topics discussed there, even by the curator of the site, I wouldn't exactly call it a "fan" site. Then again....fan....fanatic, perhaps. Still, "fan-site" connotes a certain appreciation. The site in question has long moved past bitter vet and into something else. Prolly best to let that dog lie. Besides, CCP's censorship extend to their own domain. Beyond that anyone is free to seek out that site.

Don't ban me, bro!

You could write a hollywood e-thriller about this. How a once edgy Goonswarm CEO got seduced by the lure of a regular wage and Icelandic cuisine and decided that eating and a roof over his head was more important than promoting the interests of a 3rd party forum full of bitter vets and 4chan rejects. The horror!
