Hey guys

I've just returned to EVE after a lengthy break and was looking for some advice regarding the different ways of making ISK in high-sec. First here's a link to my skills on my main: http://eveboard.com/pilot/Rhugan_Angoran

I had a fitted dominix with some drones which I sold when I rejoined and have been doing some station trading in Jita whilst trying to decide what path to take. I currently have just under 8m sp and am training an alt on my account to take over the station trading when I move my main. I've been using Eve Mentat to help me with my trading and I believe my NAV is around the 120m mark. Does anyone who uses this program know if there's a way to view profit by item? Also does anyone know of any other programs I can use to help me with station trading?

I was interested in running lvl 4 missions by myself before and that's the reason i had the domi. However as far as I can remember,  I never did any by myself. I have over 5 standing with the brutor tribe is this enough to run lvl 4s for them? I have skills for caldari up to battlecruiser and gallente up to battleships. However I think a lot of my skills need specialising and that I've probably got too much spread at the moment. I understand that aggro has received a revamp and that it's no longer possible to warp in to a mission, put your tank on, get aggro and then just sit there whilst drones do all the work for me? In light of that, what would be one of the safest ways/ships to run L4s solo? I prefer the gunnery approach but would switch to something like a raven if it was a much safer ship.

Due to rl I have some play sessions where I will be constantly interrupted and sometimes have to step away from my pc for up to an hour. What I'm initially looking for are ways I can supplement station trading with other forms of making ISK. I've heard of something called PI before but I have no idea what that is or if it makes much ISK? Also is it worth creating another alt to station trade in another hub?

I'm interested in manufacturing and even inter-regional trading but I don't know anything about either of these ways of making ISK or if they're high-sec viable? I am one of those people who enjoy making spreadsheets for everything and would like to incorporate that in to playing if possible. I like to do a lot of research on subjects to help myself succeed.

Lastly, I've never done mining or exploration either, would I be able to make much doing either of those on my own?

I wouldn't mind adding a second account to help myself in any of the above activities if it made a noticeable difference. I'd like to get to the point where I can plex my account(s) and still have a healthy income so I could look at something like FW/PvP.

Mant thanks in advance to anyone who managed to read and make sense of that and offers any advice.

First welcome back Big smile

Second, it's obvious that trade/manufacturing is what will make you happy - with PI on the side. Yes the latter can make you a fair bit of ISK, top end products will give you 1m a unit or more, but this is still a fiddly clickfest. And you need several planet to be able to make those products.

Theres a specialized forum sections for industry - you might want to explore it. And there is also a map of ways to make isk linked is several "What should I do" threads around the newbie forums.

As for L4s in domi people do them by fitting micro jump drive (new prop module added in Retribution) and sentry drones. Here you can see what I mean: linky.

Mia Angoran,

Welcome back to Eve.

Yes, having over +5.00 Corporation standing with Brutor Tribe will definitely allow you access to level 4 Agents, as long as the Minmatar Faction is above -2.00 standing.

Missions are steady income which can be boosted by various Social skills. Exploration is hit and miss which requires more time to be invested into it.

You cannot believe how happy I am to see a thread about making isk that isn't the generic and regular 'how do i buy a plex/how do I get rich quick-post'

Also wb to eve.

As to making isk:

1. PI can supply you a steady income, depending on what you do you could make about 5-15mill in highsec per week off it. Lowsec though will net you closer to 10-50 per week (even 100 mill if you really know what you are doing). I recomemnd reading up on the subject and talk to people that are very into it. They may not give you any trade secrets however :p.

2. Missions L4: steady income. I recommend getting a fully TII fitted BS with tank and support mods before you attempt to solo. In the case of the domi, missions are still viable with drones, however I'd heartily recommend using sentries (supplemented by small and medium drones for taking care of frigs and cruisers that get close).
Before you start going solo though, try to find someone to fly with you, so there's some more room for error.

If you would like to go fully for guns there's a few options:
Blaster/rail megathron: the extra damage bonus is nice for either. (rails are sheit damage but very very good range, blasters the other way round.)
Blaster/rail Rokh: due to the extended optimal range bonus to hybrids, you can get quite a bit further using blasters. However rails are even more long range on this one.

In either event you should take small drones with you to kill the pesky frigates.

Hi

Thanks everyone for the advice so far, you've all given me plenty of material to read to help myself succeed in EVE.

At what point would it make sense to add a second account?

If I wanted to start off with manufacturing/research etc, whilst still doing missions on my main when I can, would it be better to train another character on a second account to take care of those things?

If you don't know why you would need a 2nd account for....you don't need it.

If you need to ask when to make a 2nd account...you don't need it.

When you find out you need a second account because it means you can do "x" with that character/account while you can't do that with 1 account....you need a 2nd account.

What J'Poll said.

Further, you don't -need- a second account to be successful in EVE. I'm back down to one account (I started up a second account again for a few months to explore elements of the game that I had passed over) and am as happy as pie to have the one account.

I find that when I play with the one account my focus is in the game and I enjoy myself far more. Switching between screens was diverting my attention and lessening my enjoyment of the here and now. But, that's me. I think that in my elderly years (I'm really not that old) my enjoyment of multitasking has diminished to the point that I just enjoy playing my one and only account.

So, to further what J'Poll said, it may be that it will -never- make sense for you to have a second account. Or it might. Some people like having multiple accounts.

You will know if and when you need a second account. It really depends on your long term goals.

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.
