Its going to be intresting to see what exactly is included in the "Immersion Project", I myself would love to see all the science articles updated and expanded so us Roleplayers can have a more consistant foundation, like what exactly shields are on ships are and how they work, the kind of Reactors used by the different Empires etc. Oh well I guess were just going to have to wait and see

We got a time frame for this roll out?

Will all pages need to be tweeked or are they good as is?

I second the make afraid to mistakes part. I would make more but where to go for the real facts.

It might be a good idea to have a IC and a out Character tab at the top of the page for search results too.

There also needs to be a way for CCP to identify besides locking the whole page if possible what is "offical" and what is not maybe with muliple levels so yarr can lock down some text for CCP review. Lockable sectin section headers might be workable or additinal tabs that invite player addititions and are easier to work with like rumers about tab etc.

Will the new system allow devblogs to be added to the wiki so links can be added by the players maybe in a seperate tab?

Will adding new catagory links be worth it at this time or will you be able to do searches and add them all in at once like the every page using the [[IC]] header now being in a In-Character category?

The last time I started making one I got shot down by YARR.
Is the current ruling 2009 on category tags attached to database items still true?
More specificly will the category tree stay the same or will it change. The current wiki page on it neeeeds to be updated bad.

Glad to see the updates. A big pet peeve of mine with EVE has always been how absolutely utterly worthless the "search" box is in the help window. Seriously, it's been a steaming pile for as long as I've been playing, and I'd wager even longer. I've been a believer that connecting it to the evelopedia would be vital and I'd say this is a good sign.

There are some technical things in the game client that I'm curious about. Namely, the way I understand the show-info windows is that it queries what is essentially a sequestered web server/database for the relevant info (if I understand it, even using http.) What are the issues surrounding having it query the wiki directly, including adding a wiki tab? As users, we'd have instant access to all the information we need without the overhead of a full blown web browser. (The steadily degrading client-side performance of EVE means that I cannot reasonably both undock and have a web browser open at the same time any more, down from 3 clients and a web browser just 2-3 years ago.) Smoother integration into the client would demonstrate that CCP takes it's help system seriously. (The lack of good documentation in EVE is an old, unfunny joke.)

Also... I keep hearing that the ISD programs have been on a recruitment freeze. That they still accept applications, but don't actually do anything with them (definitely a depressing situation that makes it look like CCP doesn't care any more.) Was that just the STAR team, or all, and has the freeze been lifted? Would it really be worth our whiles to even fill out applications?

edit: also, spacebook looks like moose butthole, and always has. Please don't get the stink of it on evelopedia.

currently their are many open construction sites... like the System pages and the lack planets... or the NPC Corp pages have to many different versions (what is my fault too) see here (ISD Crystal Carbonide Version), here (my version) and here (the old version)... I think... CCP or YARR should work on some good guidelines and help pages... like they have done on the fiction site... I think that would help too... because I think many players are just afraid to do something wrong... so they do nothing

• Time Frame for release:

Basically all the coding is done. We need to update the graphics from incursion to incarna, were migrating some servers due to some technical stuff that i dont understand due to being pretty dumb and running some security checks etc. So im personally hoping very soon! But cant give a solid timeline, sorry.


• Will old pages need updating to the new style

99% of them will be fine, due to some custom coding people like to do (including me) a few pages might need a tweak but otherwise shouldnt need to touch anything.

You lost me here im afraid, can you elaborate?


• IC / OOC tab

I think this is generally a bad idea. Wiki is for almagamation of the information about and relating to EVE and what you guys do with it. This includes the fiction as well, but its not really a avenue for roleplay. I mean, if you guys use it as such thats great but adding IC / OOC tabs to a wiki just doenst seem like the best idea. Happy to be convinved otherwise, and if were finding a big need for an outlet for this stuff maybe we should be looking at other things to supply that to you guys.


• CCP Official pages and locking sections.

This is actually a really good idea, Oveur told me so because he said the same thing. It is a good idea to have lockable sections and we should do that. Im not going to add anything til post release though but after that I will be working with YARR to get a list of ideas, wants and needs from the community (you guys)


• Dev blogs being added to the wiki

Let me talk to community as I already thought we did that, mind you dev blogs already have their own section on the website so im not sure they need a duplicate on the wiki. However, you are ofc free to add them.

OK, ill admit to having no sleep last night due to my little girl deciding to eat some coins, but im a little confused on this question. I think you want us to add functionality so you can search by categories?

Talked to YARR about this and the rules were alot stricter back in 2009 than they are now. They really want to update the category tree also but its on a pretty long todo list. Im sure they'd appreciate some help in this regard if you'd like to drop them a line?

Aha, im glad someone mentioned this as I think it sucks too. I also thought Greyscale had fixed this but I asked him yesterday and it turns out not yet. I will however be sure to chase this annoyance up as deary me, our help search should actually search help! That would be sensible.


• Adding a tab to show info to display the wiki content for that item.

At least that is how I understood the question. This would be kind of cool, but to be honest I would much rather see us eliminate any issues you are having with having the web browswer open on your clients than do something to work around that problem. Im not a great fan of jury rigging solutions to make up for the fact that we havent come up with other solutions.


• ISD Recuitment freeze

I dont know where you heard this from but it is very very wrong. We are very much looking for new blood in all of our teams and I urge you to apply!

Yeah, this needs to be cleaned up. To do that YARR need more peopel to help though. And you dont neccessarily need to be in YARR to help, these kind of things can very much be community driven with YARR supporting you where needs be. We do need to make it clearer to players that wiki's are cool and editing stuff isnt going to break anything, I couldnt agree more there and besides a dev blog explaining that im open for ideas on how to pursue something along those lines effectively.

Sorry I didnt reply earlier, im a bit of a fanboy of your stuff on the pedia :) I'll try my best to break this down, again forgive me for summarizing questions, please poke again for anything I missed. Im going to skip the questions on fiction and concentrate on the specific EVElopedia questions becuase I really dont have much time left atm, sorry! Could always try the fiction portal for those as i know our storyline chaps check that.

• What form will portals take
Were going for the spiderweb approach, a page sub divided with links to alot of pages or sub-portals with information on the topic required. I'd imagine we'd itterate quite alot on them depending on what players need, the whole thing has been on hold for a while though so we need to get on top of that. They wont be locked either so they will just evolve naturally as players add to them and change them for the better (i hope!)


• Background colour
The screen shot is ripped directly from the current version so yes, your right on that.


• Changing size on window doesnt break formatting

Yes, this should be the case and if its not with the new release we will fix.


• Item Icons being old versions

Im assuming you mean with the overlays displayed correctly. These should now be updated (example) but please let me know if this is not the case.

Yep, its still possessed. (tried in both IE and firefox, and tried clearing my cache for giggles - still needs an exorcist)

Pretty cool an article I wrote made it to a devblog
