Wow, kil2 you are selling this really hard. Except I invited a gamer friend of mine over today to watch what I've been talking to him about Eve forever so he could "get" it. After watching the stream he's not really sure what the big deal is. It looks pretty gross with all those lasers and effects and those blobs of ships balled together.

People tell me Justin Beiber is interesting... I just don't see the appeal.

It is almost like taste is individual and what people like based on different criteria.

No! Never say it is so! Shocked

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

I just showed someone the stream and they thought it looks awesome.

Plus EvE is interesting. That stream has over 8400 viewers right now. The system is packed and players waiting to get inside.

I'm watching the stream at work, the gamers came over to watch at my desk.

They all agreed that I'm wasting my time in EVE and how the commentary sounds like a scripted sales pitch.

I agreed and stopped watching.

How are you getting a good stream?
All I'm getting is a static image advertising the event and a blinking light claiming that whatever I'm seeing (not much) is 'live.'

My friend tried to get his wife into EVE. She hated it. Yet he never considered running to the forums to yell at CCP employees for it. His mistake, I guess...

Eve is not a spectator sport.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

EvEl UI isn't all that well designed for streaming. Maybe Soon™?

EVE is like a highly exclusive club . . . that nobody really wants to join.

But one occasion, someone will want to come inside, and will create 2-6 imaginary friends to invite as well.

Without those imaginary friends, EVE would have probably closed it's doors by now.

Same situatioin, but quite the opposite result of viewing the stream... especially when they switched the overview to show how many people were actually fighting instead of just showing the cap ships involved. Smile

"Gamer", in today's market, generally means a member of the instant gratification crowd .. people whose most played games are WoW, CoD, GoW, HL2 with "achievements!" out the wazoo and the like.

Eve is pretty (with proper camera placement Smile) and offer rewards far exceeding those of any other game around, problem is that they don't manifest in the way that most 'gamers' are accustomed to .. there is no "Ding!" as it were.
In this game of ours you can sweat, bleed, kill and cry for weeks, months or years and suddenly notice that you have mortal enemies, life-long allies and is part of an empire larger than an entire WoW server .. Eve is :effort: and community more than a simple game .. we log in to chew the fat, shoot someone in the face (with ISK or bullets) and then chew some more fat, often with the vanquished foe who then either becomes mortal enemy or life-long ally.

There is a theory that everyone in the world can be connected by fewer than six steps, I'd wager that is at least doubled in most games (random people doing random things) and halved in Eve (the opposite of previous bracket).

Some people are content with having friends and getting likes on Faecesbook and grinding in anonymity in "insert generic game", perhaps your 'gamer friend' is one of those or perhaps your just didn't manage to get it across that Eve is almost impossible to quantify within the framework of other games.
Either way, do it again .. only let him actually try the game. Have a few brews, let him shoot someone, then arrange for a massive overkill hot-drop by a bored null entity and finish by going to said entities home systems and kill some more while buying everything in the sector and putting it back on market at a hefty mark-up .. point is, there is more to Eve than flashing lights.

I thought I was invited to a PvP/PvE EVE live event. Instead it was an extras call for a marketing ploy that cost me a lot of time and isk. Getting outright ganked by someone turning the Concord switch back on unannounced was just outright underhanded.

Yes, I feel abused and put up wet.
