Making a mining alt... Worth it or not?

I'm thinking of making a mining alt. Is this worth it or not? He would be based in Minmatar space. He would also prolly be on the same account as I only have one comp. I am a miner as well. This alt would be based in Minmatar space for trade and the ores.

Keep in mind you can only train one char at a time per account.

You can just train mining skills onto your main char.

Or an alt .. up to you.

Only you can really answer that question so to help yourself find the answer you should answer the following;

Do you enjoy mining?

If the answer is, "yes," then making a mining "alt" is probably a good idea.

If the answer is, "no," then making a mining "alt" is a bad idea.

If your thought is to "AFK" mine (just leave yourself mining while you do other stuff) you are better off not doing that. AFK mining will make the game less fun for you to play. You can make more ISK actively playing EVE for shorter periods of time than AFK mining for hours on end. If you love the idea of 'passive' ISK income you can pursue Planetary Interaction, moon mining, and market trading as viable (and potentially more profitable) alternatives.

Basically, AFK mining is a bad idea from a let's have fun playing a game point of view since, really, you aren't even playing. And who in their right mind pays to play a game only to not play the game?

Anyway, you need to figure out why you are thinking about having a mining alt. Once you figure that out you'll have a better idea if this is something you'd enjoy doing.

A. The question itself means you dont need it. If you have to ask if you need an alt, you dont need it.
B. Only make a mining char if you like mining
C. You can run multiple clients from 1 comp. I too have one comp. Yet use 6 accounts.

Another thing to note is that you will want to refine the ore that you mine. To be more efficient, if you are in hi-sec, you will need a standing between 6 & 7 to avoid the 5% tax. This will mean a big mission grind to increase your standing.

How do you do this? I thought it required multiple comps.

Just start up the client multiple times (and turn off the audio for most of them for your sanity). You can then alt+tab between them (or however you want to manage them).

Start the client multiple times
Run them in (fixed) windowed mode
Switch between them (multiple monitors help a lot though).

Mining is absolutely terrible isk, and none of the skills translate to blowing up or creating internet spaceships.

It takes 3 weeks to train a battlecruiser that can make 40+m/hr in anomalies.

E: Have you tried opening eve, then opening eve again? It's the magical method we all use to open up more than one eve client.

I call it, "opening 2 eve clients"

No. My indie toon was sitting in space munching ore bored as hell so I trained him up for a noctis and I haven't mined in months.

Keep in mind that as you can only train on 1 character at a time, the time you spend training the mining alt is time you are not spending training your main.

My advice is no, it's probably not worth it. In general you are better off finding a way for your main to make isk. If you really want to do it though, that's up to you.

What is the reason you don't want to just mine on your main?

If said reason isn't pretty compelling, no, just train mining on your main.

Unless you're going to get a second account strictly to mine on, then it's not worth it.

Keep this character as the miner, train up other characters for trade. There is no point training up multiple characters for mining since you can only log in with one character from an account at a time. Training up alts for trade is useful since you can log them in, update orders, then log out knowing that their market orders will be working for you while you are mining, working, sleeping, etc.
