Quoting a segment of a post from CCP Guard in this thread.

oh...and the nebula will be on SiSi next week and we really want your feedback on how they look and feel.

I'm ecstatic to finally see these in the game! The Gallente nebula is my favorite. Big smile

Are you talking about how spherical they come off in that video? It's probably due to some weird scaling in the rendering software being used. I imagine they won't appear so spherical in the game.

strong fish-eye effect, but i like how you can see nebulaes in relation where you are in space. A nice first step. Maybe some day we will get nice effects in solar-systems too.

pretty damn impressive.

what it looks from one spot shouldn't be the most impressive thing, but how it would look different from some other star system nearby. Tie the whole eve space together, that kind of thing. Give a sense of positioning in the galaxy.

I admit that these look great even without the 3d galaxy thing Smile

I would love if we would get some actually darker solar systems, and not have the sun and particle effects obscure all that nebula glory. Not everything needs to be dark, but eve space is seriously way too bright.

That is only skybox preview, not actual in-game footage. In the game there is also starfields and many light sources like sun, so the overall picture brightness will be normal I think.
Cant wait to see this on Singularity/

Sad but true. I want to be able to turn down the brightness of stars and the background, and it would be nice if I could do them independently.

In a galaxy far far away, you can control the powers of the atom and fire plasma 250km at the speed of light from a space ship nearly a mile long! But you can not have tinted windows, sorry.

Amen. It has always irked me that sometimes you can't see the blinking of your mods due to the blinding brightness of some parts of the present nebulae, or esspecially the clouds in some mission rooms. And the ******* blinding blooms on the suns in some systems. Who the **** paints some of this stuff. Are they wearing sunglasses all day indoors at their desk?

However, other than the brightness the new nebulae and the effects of travel on the background is a good alteration to the current wallpaper approach.

Also, I think that is Steve Roach 's music in the video. great stuff

to be honest im getting pretty annoyed how much people are tugging theemselves over these damn nebula, as if its something completely new and groudbreaking!!

Nebulas have been in games for years, look at x3 and look at even smartphone games such as galaxy on fire! they all have them and x3 was 5 YEARS AGO if not more. My god get a grip... its CCP being 5 years behind!

So did CCP.

I don't know anyone that keeps them positionally correct and in perspective from any one of several thousand points of view however.

these nebulae are akin to hills and castles being reworked in, say, WoW. theyre what you stare at most of the time. this is a huge upgrade, and a big project for CCP, considering they're actual 3d objects that take up space, and unify the solar systems.

what we have now is and has been, utter garbage.
