Learning PvP through FW & FW mechanics questions

Hi all,

I'd like to learn a bit more about solo/small gang PvP and preferably earn some ISK doing so (or at least sustain myself as I expect to lose a ton of ships at the start...), and it sounds FW is a good way to do that. After reading the tutorials/guides some things aren't entirely clear to me yet:

1) I understand that once I join FW parts of hisec will be almost inaccessible to me. So if I want to hang around in Jita/Amarr, I need to join the Caldari/Amarr side, right?
2) If I join Caldari or Amarr, I can do defensive plexes for Caldari & Amarr and offensive plexes in Minmatar/Gallente space? So does it make any difference which of Caldari/Amarr I join?
3) I read that LP/ISK payout is reduced for the losing side (due to "tiers"). I checked the DOTLAN maps and it seems Amarr is losing a lot right now? So if I want to make decent LP/ISK, I'm better off joining Caldari? How does this work?
4) You lose standings for most things that earn LP (capturing plex, doing missions) for the opposing side. So my status with Minmatar and Gallente will drop. Given that I'm not sure if I want to keep doing this, I'd like not to be locked out of their hisec spaces (at -5), and I don't particularly look forward to grinding missions to recover standing. How quickly do you lose standings? I'll probably play an hour or 2 every day.

1. well not inaccessible but yeah it does complicate things
2. nope, but to keep awoxing to a min I would suggest chose a side who's area you will be most active in.
3. tier level directly affects the LP payout multiplier, not sure who is highest atm but you also need to take into account the tide turns constantly
4. Fairly certain most of the standings you lose is NPC corp (FDU, TLF ,STATEPRO etc). Maybe someone more knowledgeable can answer that.

Incorrect. Every time you get promoted you gain Faction standing to the allied factions, and lose faction standing to the opposing side.

Correct.

However this "limitation" can be easily circumvented by creating a trader/hauler alt character.

Yes and no.

It doesn't matter which one you join as you are basically at war and allies with the same people.
It does matter which one you join as each militia's Loyalty Point Store has items (ships, implants, weapons, mods, etc) that are specific to it and only it.

I should also add that I'm not entirely certain that you get LP or "help" with plexes belonging to your allied or allied enemy's militia.

The higher a militia's "Tier" the more Loyalty Points they gain for killing enemy ships and capturing enemy plexes.

HOWEVER... in order to gain a higher "Tier" a militia must 1) capture quite a few systems and 2) dump their hard earned Loyalty Points into the "bunker" (see: "iHub") to raise each individual system "Tier." So while the "winning" militia may get more LP for doing things at a higher "Tier" they must also spend more LP to maintain it.
Moreover... more systems under a militia's control means more people must spread out farther and thinner to defend it... which makes things easier for the "losing" militia to strike back and turn the tide in the war.

tl;dr... just join the militia that fits you best. FW ebbs and flows like the tides.

You will lose standings with the Militia NPC corp... which does somewhat affect your standings with the overall faction. If you strictly stick to shooting players only it won't be too much of an issue (one that can be fixed with the skill Diplomacy).

However, if you make it a habit to shoot faction NPC ships, your faction standings will tank (and sadly this is no longer optional as you MUST shoot faction NPCs to make offensive plexes time down).

No ****. But how am I wrong?

My statepro standing is -10, my state standing is -5. IDK seems like I am right at least in my case...

Yes Amarr is losing a lot right now. So you make more on defensive plexing. In addition, you have to travel less to engage in battles. So if you want to go 1-3 jumps from high to low sec and pvp in favors not supporting you, then Amarr is the route to go. E.g. past 3 days the ratio has been 3:7 ship ratio. Granted this does not mean anything if you are experinced.

The biggest thing to do in Fw is to have at least 1-2 "buddies" to help you at some points. Cause there will be times you can easily win a #'s fight if only you had the one person there helping you deal Dps/boosting/tanking/neut/etc.

Sure solo is fun. But when your losing this bad, you kinda want to have a buddy or 2 to not be forced from system by a blob of poorly fitted ships.

[sorry for the digression]
