Tuskers DeathRace, screwed out of a win?

So I competed with 300 other pod Pilots to race 78 jumps in Tuskers DeathRace. Great event, and I'm here today to ask you opinion on whether or not I should have been declared the winner.

After 3 waypoints and a lot of jumps our final winning destination was announced as a CAN anchored 250 from a 0.0 entrance into Nullsec. I got ahead of the pack because the second to final destination was down a pipe and I knew the last destination would be back down the pipe so I went ahead of most everyone else.

When I was 4 jumps out another pod pilot caught up, his ship was faster and that was fine because I knew we would be jumping into a bubbled gate camp and I didn't want to be the first. My new friend jumped. I followed about 5 seconds after. As planned he decloaked first and started burning, I knew he would pull aggro and distract the gang from myself so I decloaked too and burned strait out of the bubbles inline to a celestial. It worked, he popped and I warped in low shields. I knew I had very little time to get to the finish but there were no celestials back near the gate to use as a warp in so I docked up to repair my shields and warped to the gate at zero.

I landed straight on top of their gang and was 175 from the CAN which also had a bunch of un-anchored bubbles and one inty on it. I started burning and overloaded everything! It was fun because I was also listening to their live stream and could hear them calling me primary and trying to lock me down. I also heard them lose lock and lose hope in killing me as I raced my burning A$$ at almost 7k ms! I was suddenly in structure! Then relief as I overshot the can and started to re-approach then POP! and seconds after I'm back in station.

Now to me I won, but on comms I could hear them saying I burned to the wrong can and didn't make it. I only saw one can and one group of bubbles! The adrenaline coursing through my veins turned cold as I was told I indeed did not win, and that I was popped 7k from the ACTUAL CAN!! I guess I had to be 2.5k GF?

Anyway here is a link to my loss, a link to their announcement blog and a link to their camera showing it happen!

Now I didn't follow the event, but it would seem pretty self-explanatory to require the finisher to physically take an item out of the winner can. Was it not structured that way?

If you read that second link it says
"The goal of the racers was to jump in and burn to the can without exploding."

Which sounds like the OP did.

But this is EVE Online, and thus I will never take part in any kind of event because like everything in EVE, it is unlikely to be run honestly Big smile

Unless cans of dead pilots were left after the wrecks were salvaged, but that would be a bit stupid and make it extremely confusing

Reading this story really emphasises how badly null sec is broken where the null bears are so bored they feel the need to organise these races to entertain themselves. I signed up to play eve for the grim battles, wars, and world domination, not care bear racing games.

Care bear racing versus ships with guns and bubbles?

Hmm, perhaps the term has a different connotation but to me it means "Risk Averse" - flying a ship through really risky space isn't something a Care bear would do (probably because they're afk mining in empire).

Anyway, if there are no wars for you go and make em, it shouldn't be too hard.

Its time to stand up against the bad empire based CEO telling falsehoods about what new characters can accomplish and pushing them towards an in game experience of drudgery and loneliness keeping them in the shadow of ignorance for at nest their own profit at worse apathy towards all the experiences that Eve has to offer.

Umm, you do realise The Tuskers have jack **** to do with null sec apart from occasionally shooting bits of it in the face right??

The point is that people are organising these races instead of fighting wars. I think that is party due to broken null sec mechanics as null bears simply want to maintain the status quo and low secers who want to expand their empire into null sec have little chance enless they sell their souls to a null alliance. So people end up organising things like this instead.

It's about having fun, and providing content for others. Tuskers are a pirate corp by the way, the only involvement they have with nullsec is usually at the end of a gun.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I find that hard to believe from the tucker org. If this was C&P I'd demand logs if you made a claim such as this. Every one I've come across has done well by their "brand" in regards to their corp code.

So providing unique content for players such as the death race is an example of how nullsec is broken? Just because it isn't given to you on a silver platter by npc does not mean its broken. If you want what you signed up for ask CCP to fix the game instead of begging for your mining barge to be buffed repeatedly because of "them dirty gankers."

Awww, did you get last place or something?

It's suppose to be fun, and it looks like the people who organized it, watched it, and took part in it had fun. Don't be such a killjoy!
