How to remove an username from the login screen?

I have recently decided I no longer need one of my alts so I sold him and now I'd like to see the username (the account name if you will) associated with it gone from my login screen.

There were no obvious files I could delete from the EVE settings folder - I opened core_user__.dat with a text editor and I did see the username I want to remove however I don't think it's wise to just delete it - maybe use a hex editor?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Shouldn't clearing the cache solve your problem?

The list of logins stored in core_public__.yaml
Format is rather simple, you can reorder and reshape the list as you wish.
