They are actually.

Actually they aren't mate. They are included in the subscription payment model, thus, not free.

So 10 years ago ccp calculated the lifetime of eve and the number of expansion that would be released, and based the subscription price and the result...

what about customers who has blocked TORRENT protocol by their ISP ?

how that will work ?

You have two options here:
1. Change your ISP to normal. Why you pay money for incomplete and bad service?
2. Read dev responses to devblog, and you will find out that you will still have option to download patches without BT.

Even though it makes no difference to me personally, I do believe this needs to be set as OPT IN, as in, it's off by default. Why?

Because the OP does have a point where he does not have to share his own connection, regardless of protocol used or if everyone else in the industry is doing it or not. The why he doesn't want to share his bandwidth is irrelevant as he's paying for it, he decides where it's used and how.

If you do decide to opt in on the BT download, getting faster downloads, you also upload while doing so, which seems logic.

If CCP does go with BT and it actually eats up my upload in any way noticeable, I'll simply limit it's port to 0kb/s on the upload on my router.

TL;DR This needs to be OPTIONAL, with default being OFF! :)

Try reading the dev blog before posting. They say that it is off by default.

i guess you didn't because

"it is part of the BitTorrent protocol that every participant in the distribution network gives and receives data, and this is something we cannot really change. However, there are ways to limit this, and by default the new EVE Launcher will only MAKE you share the data required for installing the client while you are downloading"

I know how some clients work. I've stopped me uploading before by setting the upload to the lowest, which was something like 5 kb/s. If you can't spare 5 kb/s during the download, you need a new connection. And, by default, you don't upload anything unless you're downloading a patch.

He has an option, stop playing the game... It's CCP's product, they decide the design, you decide if you want to use it.

lol thank you for that advice, but no thanks, i'll keep playing, you keep trolling Blink

That was the worst comparison I've ever seen anyone try to make. You pay for electricity by the kilowatt & your monthly payment will fluctuate depending on what you use. EVE remains the same price from month to month.

Get a clue what torrents are and stop complaining about nothing OK?

Many games already switched to torrent stuff and it helps people to get data faster and allow to lower bandwidth cost for CCP which both are benefit for us.

So no they wont be paying you because you are uploading game data. Less they pay for bandwidth more they can put into development right?

Bottom line can I have your stuff please?

You seem to have this confused in some way. CCP wants to sell a service (the ability to use the game). For that, we need a client to connect to said service. For that, they need to distribute that client. It's in their interest that I have the client, not mine :)

I can, and will if it becomes a problem, limit the upload rate for anything running on my own network. So this, for me, is a non-issue, like I said in the first post I made.

What I don't accept is something being forced into my network so that I may pay to use some other service! :) It's rather silly that I have to do the publishers work and still have to pay for the product I'm distributing :)

they are not free,, ffs you pay a sub this sub pays the wages for the devs doing the expansions, it's not free. CCP choose not to charge extra.

You pay for 30 days game time. Once you pay that money to CCP it's no longer your money because you got what you paid for, 30 days game time. I've never had to actually pay for an expansion or patch, but please feel free to link me the part that states we do in the TOS.

The electricity my own computer uses? no. The electricity used by the CCP servers? For me, yeah. I go to a business college, and yes, you do calculate electricity into the price, but not directly based upon how many people are buying your products. You do it the other way around.

the point (2) make more sense then point (1)

there are plenty of people using wireless providers with blocked torrent (any of torrent) protocol or the torrent protocol is shaped to almost 0b/s .

If people may still use the HTTP protocol then I don't see a problem

you've made the choice to live with the illussion that CCP don't pay their devs to work, that's not my problem, that's yours.

Says the guy playing hissyfit semantic games because someone dared mention that Eve doesn't charge for its expansions unlike literally every other MMO in the world that has expansions.

If EVE expansions aren't 'free', what are WoW expansions? Double paid for?

why use firewall rules to control the bandwidth usage, when it's so much more fun to whine on the forum about a feature which we have not even had the chance to test.

At what point did I say that? This might be a complete surprise to you, but making stuff up doesn't give your argument anymore weight than a rant post about a non-issue would. Refer to the OP for an example.

My only problem with torrent distrobution is, now I have to create a ruleset on the company firewall to bypass the other ruleset to block P2P torrent traffic and allow me to update my workstation.

*sigh*
