Although you guys at CCP do a brilliant job (most of the time) i suspect this change you are talking about with the new EVE launcher is going to be a mistake.

CCP Aporia wrote "the new EVE Launcher will only make you share the data required for installing the client while you are downloading"

i have an issue with being made share my upload speed, i pay for it so why should i be made let ccp take advantwage of my broadband. we all share torrents but this is for FREE stuff and EVE/patches/expansions are not FREE.

"once your download is complete you will not be distributing it to others, unless you explicitly enable this in the options"

so when patch day has come and gone it will take an age to update ? because like i've said i won't be allowing ccp to use my broadband to distruibute their product as i'm sure most other will do the same, but i tell you what CCP give me a 33% discount off my monthly sub and i'll allow you to take advantage of my network.

"after all it might be useful for sharing the installation across your local network"

some of us have a couple of users on the same LAN playing EVE, but in general most will not, so why would people want to share it on their LAN ?

"We are also, by default, limiting the upload rate so that it should not affect your normal internet usage. This can be adjusted within the settings, should you wish to do so."

you have no right to take advantage of my upload speed, unless CCP wishes to purchase it, please see above regarding the cost of this.
I have no issue with the launcher going to torrent, but hey CCP seed it on your own servers, my network is not free for use.

Why do you even care so much? You're uploading parts of the EVE client that you've already downloaded to help other players download their clients faster, and in return you're getting a more stable download with potentially faster speeds due to multiple download streams.

Some people like to complain about every little thing, I guess.

Because you cant read comments to original devblog (in particular dev responses about optional BT uploads and optional HTTP 1.1 functionality for those who dont want to use BT).
Also because you created double thread with useless rant about things you have no idea.

ps just to annoy OP: In my third world country (in Europe Smile)I pay 5$ in a month for 5Mbit/3Mbit broadband connection without any traffic limitation. 16 cents in a day is the reason to be greedy and not share your upload connection?

World of Warcraft already does this. It helps improve the download speeds and bandwidth capabilities because the entire world isn't downloading from one single spot.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

What does responsibility have to do with it? That's how the protocol works.

I don't get it ... everyone I know on patch day (well, before the launcher anyway) would head over to eve-files, grab Chribba's torrent link, and download the client that way. Been away for a while so "patchday" for me has been days/weeks after everyone else (just training 30d skills and all), so I haven't really noticed whether the launcher is slow or unstable with the download.

However, with the assumption that I'm gonna be back solidly now, and fighting every last one of you for the new client on patch day ... a bittorrent style download will be awesome (esp since it'll help my spacebros get into the game faster too).

PS -- I'm jealous of anyone outside the US who has awesome connections ... I only have 30/5 Cry

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

What is the fuss again?

You quoted that you won't re-distribute unless you enable it. So why don't you, err, you know? Don't enable it?

So what happens to my connection (its so poor: only 2mb). Also don't say get a better line cause I can't. I'm guessing I'll actually benefit from this.

Further proof that knowledge doesn't equate or lead to generosity.
If you don't want to seed, uncheck the box or set the upload maximum to 0 kb/s and go sit in your corner where you're nice and solitary.

I for one hope that there will be a way to distribute through standard torrent clients as well, so I can seed with the launcher closed.

Blanking signatures doesn't seem to work, so this is here.
