Torpedo Explosion Effect

Hi there,

I was just wondering, whether the winter expansion will finally revamp the current explosion gfx of torpedoes.

It seems to be a ill conceived remnant of the times when Missiles were supposed to do area damage, but since that has been long gone, i wonder how long will we have to suffer from those GIGANTIC, UGLY onion rings, after a puny torpedo hit?

If nothing else, take the citadel explosions and shrink em down a bit and stick them on normal torpedoes.

Cheers

Have you ever done sanctums with ships throwing tons of torpedoes on you ship? - sure that "large" gfx is silly, plus get rid of it would just help hamsters from both sides

+1 Yep.
Weapon hit effects are sorely needing a revamp.

Yes - they always were horrible - I remember back when I started, I didn't even get what they were supposed to depict...

Strange how tastes differ. I love the torpedo hit effect, and hope CCP never change it :)

I find it ridiculous how torps have bigger explosions than citadel torps.

Well torpdedos do have dumb warheads and have an uncontrolled explosions so by all means its explosion should always be larger than a cruiser missiles smart warhead.

They are supposed to be nuclear... I guess they are just trying to show the shockwave or something.

Yay, new explosions please. Also, everyone keep asking, maybe we'll get it soon. I support anything that beautifies Eve.

And exactly what kind of device makes a ring-shaped explosion? I watch a lot of Mythbusters, and have yet to see anything explode in a ring shape. Speaking of which, my favorite MythBusters explosion is a conflagration of natural gas (not an energetic explosion, but one so cool it looks like a special effect.)

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

Hell if I know.. I'm clueless to this sort of stuff... Just did a few searches and found this though, but no idea if it applies to this convo.

It's about plasma explosive propulsion in space or something.

A bomb with a cylinder of reaction mass expands into a flat, disk-shaped wave of plasma when it explodes. A bomb with a disk-shaped reaction mass expands into a far more efficient cigar-shaped wave of plasma debris. The cigar shape focuses much of the plasma to impinge onto the pusher-plate.

The maximum effective specific impulse, Isp, of an Orion nuclear pulse drive generally is equal to:

I_{sp} = \frac{C_0 \cdot V_e}{g_n}

Why would you intentionally make any weapon explosive round? Especially one that wants to punch through thick shields, armor, and hull. Even we with our primitive technology make RPG's with a focused blast to punch through more than a foot of steel. And they do NOT explode in a ring (1:28).
