I *just* finished a 3 hour lab for physics where we calculated the ins and outs of acceleration and escape velocity, and played with variables such as launch acceleration duration (push), weight, height above the earth... so while I know this is just a joke, I imagine the bad day had by the poor soul who would be launched into space via slingshot, could such a powerful slingshot exist. Even if it has a super long pull (like, a mile or two), the air friction at launch alone would just...
